I think it maybe a 738 based as Thomson have recently bought some new 738s and with the W-leg to Teeside, would they send a 757 to Teeside?

I don't see why they wouldn't if the route is popular enough. I know Teeside is like a ghost airport these days, but that wouldn't stop the locals filling a 757 if its available for them to use, and Thomson seem to be able to fill aircraft from most airports provided its a high enough demand route. There is only around 40 seats difference between the two anyway isn't there? I think they would use at LBA whatever they viewed as the right size aircraft for LBA, not use something smaller because they are doing a W leg to Teeside.

We may yet find it isn't Thomson Airways doing the flights though. I hope it is, with Monarch doing their own and perhaps Thomas Cook too. You never know, it could be a Thomson 767! We can dream!

I'd be surprised if Thomson operated a B738 rather than a B752. Thomson's already announced that a B752 will operate the flights to Shalm el Sheikh and Tenerife this winter. So why would they downgrade the aircraft for during the summer season as they are operating flights to a number of popular destinations.

Thomson may well use the B737 at LBA. They are phasing out the B757, and have quite a few new B737's entering the fleet, with more deliveries from November.

The B757 is more than capable of being used on a W pattern if need be, but just because they have previously said a B757 will be used, it doesnt mean the plan hasnt changed now more flights are on offer.

Personally, Id be more surprised if a B737 isn't used now.

I was told recently by someone at a senior level at an airport where Thomson is a major customer that the airline's intention is to completely phase out the B757s by 2014.

I don't see why they would have WL fitted their aircraft and painted them into the new liveries if their intention was to gradually remove them from the fleet. They have also taken on-board (pardon the joke) some newer, younger 757 machines within recent years to replace the one's that have left the fleet, so I would expect them to stick around a little longer than 2014...

The message is a similar one with the B767! They're a similar enough age and yet they're being painted into the new Dreamliner livery...

God knows what's going on...

Just had a crazy thought. How about Thomson's use Canadian Airline, Sunwing Airlines Boeing 737-800's on lease for the LBA based programme next summer instead of using a larger Boeing 757 leased from Monarch or one of there own in-house airlines aircraft.

If i understand correctly Thomson Holidays already lease in 2 or 3 Boeing 737-800 aircraft from Sunwing Airlines over the busy summer periods to operate out off there bases at both Belfast Int'l and Dublin airport.
Also in the past My Travel Holidays us to leasing in Airbus A320's from Canadian Airline Sky Service to operate the LBA summer programmes but before anyone says anything I know Sky Service don't exist any more.

I thought it was the other way around, and Sunwing actually leased the B738's from Thomson..?! :search:

Both are capable of handling the SSH flight which makes it that bit harder to guess what we'll get. I see a 737-800 coming for Summer and keep the 757 for winter.

Tomleeds i thought that was the case too with pilots being sent over aswell??!?

Yeah I know Thomson Airways supply multiple aircraft and crews to operate in both Canada and Scandinavia during the quite winter seasons here in the UK.

But I think you'll find that it also happens the other way around as well now . As I know and also double checked that Thomson Airways's are currently leasing the 3x following Boeing 737-8K5-WL's C-FLZR, C-FTLK and C-FYLC from Sunwing Airlines this summer 2012 season as well.

Well, we'll know in a couple of years if my man was talking nonsense. He certainly doesn't usually and he's in a position to know.

Not completely LBA related but I have just noticed that TOM are operating flights out of Durham Tees Valley airport also now with Air Europa aircraft, which could explain why the LBA service is now operated by one of Air Europa's B738 machines...?!

Maybe they have some sort of good deal in relation to them operating out of a few UK airports for the Palma service...?

Not completly related to LBA but it looks like TOM is also expanding DSA
TUI increases holidays from South Yorkshire

TUI has announced it will offer more holidays from South Yorkshire following news of an improved road link between Doncaster Sheffield Airport and the centre of Sheffield.

TUI brands Thomson and First Choice will initially offer an extra 14,000 holidays from the airport for summer 2013.

Airport director Steve Gill said: "We expected the new road to bring additional benefits to the South Yorkshire passenger and with over 150,000 Thomson and First Choice holidays on offer from Doncaster Sheffield Airport in summer 2013 we are pleased that we remain Yorkshire"s largest operation for the company."

TUI has two Thomson Airways 737-800s based at the airport. Extra capacity will be offered next summer on flights to Palma, Dalaman and Reus.

Paul Cooper, from Thomson and First Choice, said: "The news that the Finningley and Rossington Regeneration Route Scheme link road has taken a step forward is something we have been waiting to hear for DSA.

"We are confident that this new road will open up key markets in Sheffield for us and help to attract passengers from the city."

The scheme includes the opening of a new link road from Junction 3 of the M18 serving the south-east of Doncaster, improving access to the airport from Sheffield, Rotherham and further afield.

The new road is expected to reduce journey times for airport passengers and cargo operators from Sheffield by up to 20 minutes.

Construction of the road is expected to start later this year and be operational in early 2014.
I hope this doesn't affect LBA and TOM will stay commiteed to LBA this time.

I booked flights with Thomson Airways tonight from a Leeds, for 3 of us, seats to Palma, Saturday 25 May 2013 - Saturday 01 June 2013 (Half term week!) with bags included for a brilliant price of £538 all in.

Before I booked, I priced Jet2 up & normally I'd pay extra to fly Jet2. Flights, same day, 25mins earlier was coming out at a total cost of £1,398!!!!!!. How on earth they can justify that price when Thomsons are selling seats at nearly a third of their price is unbelievable.

Keep them coming Thomsons! You can certainly come back to Leeds!

Needless to say Thomsons got my money! Sorry Jet2

I've noticed that jet2 are starting to be more expensive at LBA than all there other bases specially on certain days it like when we came back from BCN they wanted 500 pound extra to come back on the Saturday instead of the Friday.

Thomson have always been fairly cheap in my eyes, family members have had some cracking discounts on flights only with them in the past.

Just been looking on the TOM website and the new flights to RHO, IBZ, MEN & TFS do not seem bookable on the flights page but are bookable on the holiday page, is this just because TOM havent updated their website yet?

According to a post on another forum (not confirmed), Thomson are to base one of their own aircraft at Leeds Bradford next Summer. I would suspect this to be a B737-800.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
