I think that it was entirely appropriate to stray a little from LBA to put the whole picture into perspective, as you've done.

There was a point five, six or seven years ago when it seemed that TOM thought it might re-invent itself to compete with the low-cost airlines on some routes, but the company could never pull up its traditional roots completely.

It's now ironic that the lo-cos have entered the Thomson and other travel company territory far more comprehensively than was the reverse at the tiem of TOM's uncertain foray.

The aviation scene seems to evolve continuously so who would confidently predict what it will be in 2020?

Great news indeed. I didn't think we would see Sharm back on anytime soon.

I would imagine, don't hold me by a gun to it, but that TOM pax will be offered two flights. Either take the thomson or Jet2 flight. And they take a Jet2 seat allocation. So lets say an additional 60 or so seats.

But it would be a 757-200, would be nice to see in witner! Looks like winter is setting in to be a good one.

i hope the tui-sharm actually runs thro winter,im sure there are a few of us out there who have seen Thomson's put flights on then take them off again later with the usual sob storey not enough pax have booked, the pax who booked will find they have been transferred to man or doncaster. there based plane does sharm.
only time will tell.

I've just looked on the Thomson website and it says that there is only 1 flight available from Leeds Bradford - Sharm el Sheikh and that leaves at 07:30 and returns at 20:05

Looking at the thomson holiday website (cause if you looked on thomson for seats only they'd give you their SOLE flight), there is no extras to the 1030 departure. So as rightly said one would assume the Thomson 757 is coming! I'd prefer this to also do the SSH flight! Not just from an operational stand point, but also a Lets get this 3,000,000 mark kinda point too. 235 seats, twice a week for 5 months (or 5&half).

With 757 doing all ALC flights in winter for Jet2, and a 3rd based a/c for FR presumably doing something too we are bound to get this.

Given that Thomsons are getting Monarch to part base new Summer, I wonder if this bodes well for the return of our Winter Caribbean Cruise flights at some point in the future. It would be great to see a fully loaded 787 off to Bridgetown or Fort Lauderdale.

It was originally the cruise company which stopped the operations if I remember correctly, Thomson just provided the aircraft, so I don't think Thomson really had a say...

A member of my family recently booked a holiday with Thomson's flying to Majorca. They told the travel agent in Yeadon that they really wanted to fly from Leeds Bradford Airport but they were quoted a ridiculously high price to fly from there. After telling the travel agent they would look else where and fly with Jet2, the travel agent came back with the same holiday from Manchester a whopping £200.00 cheaper. My relatives still insisted they wanted to fly from Leeds not Manchester. The travel agent then offered them free parking and access to one of the private lounges at Manchester airport.

Needless to say, they couldn't resist such a good offer. It goes to show what trouble passengers are having to go to to fly from their local airport and it highlights what the tour companies are having to do to get people to travel across the hill. I do hope all the Yorkshire travel agents will get a full tour of the new terminal facilities at the earliest opportunity once they're finished and offer similar incentives to fly from their local airport this side of the Pennines.

If I worked for a travel agent, I would probably be fired inside a day, because I couldn't bring myself to bribe customers to be heading over the hill to MAN. I have, in the past, gone into travel agents and given them some grief over this sort of thing and in every case, they admitted that they were embarrassed to do it, and that there was huge demand to fly from LBA, and that they disliked having to persuade their customers to use MAN,EMA etc. It would so nice if TUi finally cottoned on to the local demand in the LBA catchment area and how many passengers they are probably losing to Thomas Cook and (now) Jet2 Holidays because of their reluctance to use LBA over the years. Even when they based at LBA, there were nowhere near enough seats on offer.

Couldn't agree more Heather...

Someone at Thomson really does need their head testing as last Summers B763 operation to Palma was leaving nearly full at peak times...! I understand that Palma, is possibly the busiest destination throughout the Thomson network, but still near enough to 300 passengers is not bad going!

When they had their B762/B757 based aircraft, I remember that, that was leaving near enough full, throughout the year, as people used the company's services throughout the Winter as well, even with MyTravel's based unit in addition to Thomson's aircraft, with Astraeus also creeping in on selected routes!

The worst thing they did was move the good 50 mile drive (1 hour at the best of times) away, thinking that passengers would follow.. this has ultimately meant that Jet2 have been able to expand at the rapid rate they showed, as well as letting the more recent Thomas Cook take part of the holiday market as well...

Someone has finally seen sense it seems...

Anyone know where the plane that does the PMI-LBA-PMI fight comes from? It's a 757 so not DSA, and the flight times for BHX, EMA & MAN don't add up.

Well today's Thomson Airways flight was operated by a Gatwick based Boeing 757-200, aircraft operating LGW-PMI-LBA-PMI-LGW.

Hope that helps.

Will it be the same crew that operate lgw - pmi - lba - pmi - lgw or will they be out of hours?

That will be out of hours. Saw one captain waiting at 7, whilst another looked lost on his way into the terminal and asked where security was. Like i say do they posistion them in overnight on monday?

Thomson are expected to announce an 'substancial increase' in a press conference at the airport tomorrow morning. Anyone have any inside info regarding this?

have the new Thomson flights on the Monarch aircraft been officially announced yet?

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
