Manchester Airport set to sponsor SHOUT Festival in Birmingham for the next three years
Birmingham LGBT is pleased to announce Manchester Airport as a sponsor of SHOUT Festival of Queer Arts and Culture for the next three years, supporting development and delivery of the 2017/18/19 festivals.
The sponsorship will help to deliver an exciting and innovative programme of exhibitions, theatre, performance and film that celebrates queer culture in the 50th anniversary year of the partial decriminalisation of homosexuality in England and Wales. As part of this sponsorship, the airport will host a VIP reception to launch the festival programme.
Patrick Alexander, Head of Marketing at Manchester Airport, said: “We are looking forward to working with SHOUT in what is a poignant year for the LGBT community.
“Following supporting five UK Pride events this year, SHOUT’s ethos really suits our values, and provides us with an opportunity to thank the 270,000 passengers from the West Midlands who choose Manchester Airport each year.
“We cannot wait to come and witness the festival programme for ourselves later in the year.”
Steph Keeble, Director of Birmingham LGBT, said: “Birmingham LGBT is delighted that Manchester Airport has decided to sponsor SHOUT and are really looking forward to working with the team there.
“I am sure they will become a highly valued partner of ours and are welcomed by everyone in the Midlands.”
This year’s festival will take place in venues across Birmingham from Thursday 9th – Sunday 19th November, with tickets on sale now from www.shoutfestival.co.uk. SHOUT Festival is now in its eighth year celebrating and platforming the experiences and identities of LGBTQ people in the Midlands. The festival has recently joined the Arts Council’s National Portfolio.

The flight from Houston to London Heathrow at $1,314 is still a bit pricey. To bring the cost down even further, consider flying into another airport. By selecting ‘London (all airports)’ there is a flight option that costs $997. And an ‘Airport tip’ to fly into Manchester to save another $103. It also tells you Manchester airport is 129 miles from London. And the cost of the ticket is now $894. By looking at the different airports, you can save hundreds of dollars flying into one vs another."

I wonder if the mindset of many UK people is equating travelling from/to regional Britain to the States as "get to London" instead of using what's available, or for the US traveller not thinking outside the box in getting to London.

"The Health Innovation Manchester delegation, which comprises inward investment officials, academics, health leaders and businesses, will attend The MedTech Conference in San Jose.
They will also visit America’s leading health innovation economies in the Bay Area in California and the Greater Boston Area in Massachusetts, to showcase partnership opportunities that exist following the city region’s £6bn health and social care devolution."
Hopefully this allied to the Silicon Valley links may see a flow of premium traffic onto VS services to SFO and BOS

And we have this from Malta... MAN was ranked 5th in terms of the busiest routes in 2015. Place 1 to 4: LGW, FRA, FCO and LHR. All had more flights & passengers than in 2014.

Manchester Airport back on board to sponsor Leeds Pride for three more years
Leeds Pride is delighted to announce that Manchester Airport will be back on board to sponsor Leeds Pride for three more years.
For the next three years the UK’s third biggest airport will be sponsoring the main stage which will now be known as the Manchester Airport San Francisco Stage.
Speaking about the partnership, Patrick Alexander, Manchester Airport’s Head of Marketing, said: “We are delighted to be working with Leeds Pride again to support such a worthwhile event.
“We received such great support and a friendly welcome at last year’s event, so wanted to come back bigger and better for the next few years, to meet and thank the 4.8 million people from Yorkshire who fly from Manchester.
“We are looking forward to continuing to work closely with the Leeds Pride team on what I am sure will be a world class event on our Manchester Airport San Francisco stage.”
Liaqat Ali and Alex Hannant from Leeds Pride commented: “After the success of last year, we are delighted that Manchester Airport have signed up for three years as Main Stage sponsors. The commitment from them will help Leeds Pride flourish for years to come and we really look forward to working with them."
Manchester Airport serves more than 27.9 million passengers and flies to more than 220 destinations with over 70 airlines. With a catchment area spanning as north as Scotland, south to the West Midlands, west to Wales and east to Yorkshire, it continues to add passengers and international routes. In the last few years alone it has added direct routes to the likes of Beijing, Mumbai, Houston, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Boston.
Leeds Pride 2018 will take place on 5th August. The main event on the Sunday will include two hours of entertainment in Millennium Square, a parade through the city centre with over 110 floats and five hours of entertainment on Lower Briggate to finish off an incredible weekend. Running since 2006, it is now the largest Pride in the UK to still be a completely free event with over 40,000 people attending over the weekend. It is also considered the UK's friendliest Pride. The celebrations are run by a skilled team of volunteers with close links to local Leeds LGBT+ community and the event is funded through community fundraising, grant funding and sponsorship agreements with national brands.

It beats me why Birmingham and now Leeds have managed to let this one slip by. Race & diversity and acceptance of people from all backgrounds is a big thing these days and the Pride events are hugely popular with people from all backgrounds. Manchester airport have been quick to show their support and clearly recognise the importance of such events.

Budget? Maybe they don't have the money to sponsor events like this especially if an event has quite a few sponsors lining up to sponsor it.
It's a big shame that the local airports of these events are not on side. I passed through Liverpool Airport recently and there were rainbow flags visible in many cafes and concessions which i was pleased to note. I don't know if the airport were sponsoring Liverpool pride but they were certainly endorsing it.

Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
