I don't think with TUIs case it's the runway as the main factor. DSA is their primary Yorkshire base.

I think it would also be hard for them to compete with Jet2 as there so established at LBA. If TUI based another aircraft and went all year round they would need to adversities a lot. Personally I would like to see more Thomas Cook presence.

I also note they have announced another long haul route from Doncaster to Cancun !
If only we had a runway of sufficient length !

The Dreamliner should be able to reach Cancun from Leeds. Doesn't Thomson offer Cancun from Bristol airport?

The Dreamliner probably can. It's TUI that don't want it to, at least not from LBA. Wait until someone else does it and they miss out again.......

Yes. See my post #821 above earlier today.

2,011 m is Bristol’s length and LBA’s is 2,250 so it could take a 787 if Bristol can!
TUI has used a B787-9 standing in for a 787-8 to Cape Verde from BRS at least once this year - not as far as Cancun or Sanford or Punta Cana of course which are the other long haul routes this summer. I think the TODA at BRS is something like 1978 metres on one runway and 1938 metres on the reciprocal and, like LBA, it's up on a mountain top.

We do!! We can handle the 787. Not sure why there is consistently a view that we cannot handle these flights. We don't have them because TUi opt to fly them from DSA, which is an all year round base. It is nothing to do with the length of the LBA runway.

I would agree with that statement in principle however our landing distances are the problem and are seen as insufficient for certain aircraft types and for Cat 3 with autoland operations.
Just because the airport management state we can handle the type does not mean any operator would want to do so from such a marginal runway.

Bristol does not have the displaced thresholds that we have for landing and is at a lower pressure altitude with an into wind runway and they have to restrict the number of passengers carried outbound and sometimes refuel at Manchester.
The also don’t have Manchester sucking the life out of them.

Off topic slightly, but are scimtars standard for the 737 Max?

The MAX features yet another updated winglet design dubbed "Advanced Technology Winglet" developed by Boeing so not scimitar.

NG is available with AP Blended winglet (factory standard) or scimitar as an alternative.

757 is also now available with a scimitar upper fin.

Bad news. I really don't know what's going on with TUi for next Summer 2019 but it seems we only have 4x routes on sale now.

Palma = 2x weekly - Tue & Sat
Corfu = 2x weekly - Mon & Fri
Rhodes = 1x weekly - Sat
Verona = 1x weekly - Sat

Good news is that Palma, Rhodes and Corfu are still showing being operated by a Leeds based aircraft.

But it begs the the question as to what the hell is going on?
Have we really lost so many services that include weekly flights to Antalya, Ibiza, Mahon, Dubrovnik, Bourgas, Cyprus-Paphos plus a further 2x weekly Palma.
