TUI: "We cross the ‘T’s, dot the ‘I’s and put ‘U’ in the middle"

...but we wont fly you from your local airport!

LBA still has a good offering from the remaining services provided by other airlines but this is abysmal treatment by Tui. Has the Leeds customer base truly collapsed as it's wrong to suggest their customers will simply all travel to neighbouring airports?

Yes and from their point of view better to strengthen the existing base at DSA and let LBA go. After all it was only a single aircraft and summer only and must have cost a bit to have a "base" there. Whereas Jet2 have 15+ aircraft! However with LBA expanding the terminal over the next couple of years I think this is poor move from TUI. However this might now encourage Thomas Cook, maybe others to take on Jet2 at LBA. I think EasyJet would be able to make a great success of LBA and bring in some business type routes, Madrid eg. Who knows what the announcement will bring?? To me not all bad news.

Not good for the customer but it will be for the airlines themselves that TUI and Jet 2 are not competing at LBA, TUI now have an open field at DSA on a much smaller scale than Jet2 do at LBA. Yes short term it is a kick in the teeth for LBA however Jet 2 have a large LBA operation they may just be tempted to fill the gaps TUI have left if they have the aircraft available long term and it work out better for the airport.

But it’s always nicer to see something other than Jet2. Thomas Cook have began to build there presence hopefully this will push them to base a aircraft. Or some orange other sunwing...

With all the negative comments about TOM/TUI at LBA, which have been going on for years as far as I can see, isn't it a good thing that they have vacated LBA and left the door open for a replacement to come in who may just provide an improved level of service to LBA passengers?

Did the management say Doncaster was no threat to Yorkshire’s no 1 Airport ?
Now our Tui operation is down the toilet it is time for a re-think !
It has been all downhill on the operator front since the new regime came in and with a reduced Thomas Cook offering next summer it’s not looking good at all.
A very deceiving piece in Business Desk today about Jet 2 next winter with extra New York flights and a few extra Vienna flights but if you look into it it’s not really true as it’s a short series of flights to Vienna and we have less flight to New York.
We have all our eggs in two baskets and this is not good business practice at all I hope the tide turns soon or I might have a much bigger building project next to me to worry about.

Corfu is now reduced to 1x weekly for summer 2019 operating on Fridays with TUi's own metal using a w-leg of a Manchester based aircraft to new revised schedule.

TOM3551 = CFU 12:30 - LBA 14:00 / TOM3550 = LBA 15:35 - CFU 21:00
So if this stays the same that's a 1hr 35 minute turnaround, - is that likely to be a B738 or something bigger? At least if Tui are W legging from Manchester there's a slim chance (ok, very slim) of something different to a B738 arriving. At the moment it seems like it's Jet2 B738 followed by Ryanair B738 followed by A N other B738. Would be good to get something different

Freebird, Bh Air and Nouvelair will use A320's as well as BA's daily A319 service so we won't just see 737-800's from the tour operators but I agree would be great to see something else.

Just so you, are all aware, having read this thread, I have issued a formal email to LBA with a request that it is passed on to their directors.

Within that email, there is a formal question relating to the decline in Inclusive Tour operations from LBA (ie Thomas Cook reduction, TUi removal of base and resultant major reduction) and I have asked them nicely to explain what is going on, pointing out that LBA is almost becoming a monopoly for Jet2Holidays. I have made it clear that irrespective of any plans for more business routes from the airport, the situation developing is seen as very much a step backwards.

The protocol is that having raised this question formally now, it is serving fair warning that I will be asking again at the meeting and giving LBA management time to provide their response, which I have also made clear will be passed to the readers and supporters of the airport.

Problem is that airlines may see that they are withdrawing as a sign that LBA isn't profitable with Jet2 so strong there.

It's looks like it'll either be a 757 or 737 it's not marked as a Dreamliner on the flights website.

Will the B767's still be around next year?

  • Yeap all 4x Boeing 767-300's G-OBYF/G/H & K will still be flying short haul routes for TUI Airways next summer 2019,
  • The Boeing 757-200 fleet will still be 10+ strong fleet of flying aircraft next summer: G-BYAW/Y - G-OOBA/B/C/D/E/F/N & P these are all due to be retired during winter 2019/2020. Meanwhile G-CPEV left the fleet last month and will be followed by G-CPEV, G-OOBG & G-OOBH which will leave in spring 2019.
  • The might actually be a chance we get one of TUi Airways brand new Boeing 737-MAX8's visiting, as they are to to have 6x delivered in service by summer 2019 season and I understand there to be Manchester based.

Whenever you get complacent something comes back and bites you !
Look at Leeds Utd for an example doing ok but think they are a lot better than they are.
When you think you have a strong position you often suffer a severe set-back.

True LBA has got most of its eggs in 2 baskets, but so have many others. Liverpool being a prime example. Southampton is in hoc to just one. East Midlands has a mix and match and suffering a down turn in numbers to boot.
I do agree though about the new owners, I fear they flatter to deceive, but very happy to be proved wrong.

Like every other business Jet2 are in it to make money. As long as they do they'll stay.If they don't, they'll look elsewhere

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. The news items can then be shared on the site homepage by you. #TakePart #Forums4airports Bring the news to one place!
survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
