If you look back in this forum this subject has been discussed several times.
What Ryanair can do is irrelevant to aircraft on the Uk register. Easa regulations are somewhat weird.
So given that it appears that various other airlines have their planes registered on what looks to me like the Irish register do they come under the same regulations as Ryanair? I'm thinking specifically of Norwegian - an example is B738 EI-FJX. Also, Alitalia, E175 EI-RDA as an example, apologies if I'm straying off topic slightly

That will be interesting ! and yes any aircraft on the Irish register will have the same regulation as Ryanair but they can apply for variations.

And wait for it some of Ryanair aicraft are now on Polish and shortly to be UK register

Only aircraft being put onto the polish registration are those that will operate for it's Polish Charter airline operation "Ryanair Sun"

I understand a UK AOC has been applied for earlier this year, but nothing has being mentioned of it since.

The runway limitations don't seem to stop Jet2 from safely operating many times more flights from LBA than TUI struggle to do, both airlines operating 737-800s and 757s and both with UK registered aircraft. I'm not suggesting it's not without challenges, but feel the real reason is they prefer to funnel Yorkshire folk through MAN and now also to a lesser extent DSA.

Be interesting to see if they expand the Doncaster operation, which could mean they have had a better offer to operate from there, and see if they can take the fight to Jet2..Whilst possessing of the resources, they appeared unwilling or unable to fight them at LBA. Either way I can`t see the present management wanting them back..ever

Frankly, suggesting that the runway length, or operational issues caused by it, is the reason TUi don't fly much from LBA is completely wrong. Had DSA not been built and had Peel Holdings not done a deal with TUi (who had recently come under German ownership after years as a British company - Thomson ), then LBA would probably have a reasonable presence from TUi. Previously, Britannia had operated a decent number of flights into LBA on W legs, and were actively supporting LBA's attempts to remove the night-time flying ban so as to enable them to base at LBA. In the end, that happened and we immediately got a Britannia base - usually 757s but for a couple of years that was upgraded to a 767 for the months of May and June. That base continued until DSA came on the scene. It was predicted at the Public Inquiry into DSA that if that airport opened, it would NOT bring about an increase in air passengers across the region, but WOULD result in existing services being diluted across the region - in other words, airports such as LBA, EMA makes HUY would lose out. That was exactly what happened, but the TUi decision to go to DSA was financial, and nothing to do with the runway.

The diversionary rate for TUi flights due to weather at LBA is very small - and would be even smaller if we were not surrounded by two TUi bases at MAN and DSA, which makes it all too easy to divert to the crew's base when the aircraft is one of TUi's own. We have all seen that they don't need too much encouragement to do so, diverting when other airlines are landing. That wasn't the case in the years when Britannia based here. The past two years we have had Sunwing, who generally have operated without any major issues from this airport. So to claim their decision to withdraw our base because of the runway is nonsense. You would think sometimes that we were losing huge numbers of flights due to diverts, when the figures show that in fact it is less than 1%.

They do the same at Liverpool, their operations are like a yoyo, one year they are running charters ( which by the way sell) and then one year they are not. Im Sure they think all passengers from the Merseyside area will just follow them to Manchester, but there are other choices these days in case they have forgot.

Not forgetting that trans- atlantic flights operated from BRS for 5 years quite comfortably ....the airport runway at LBA plays no part in the issues with TUi .

sorry ex-crew I disagree with your conclusion so we must beg to differ.
It may not have any part in the present spat but the problems over the years with weather and runway restrictions are part of the reason they have no interest in Lba operations.

I never really appreciated how short the landing distance was- 1524m! no wonder it sometimes feels like smacking an aircraft carrier ;-). Seriously though they need to sort the displaced threshold if nowt else.

Its not so easy to fix but I would love the management to accept the problem and stop pretending it is not important.
I suspect form other more informed posters they are fully aware and have looked into it and decided it is too difficult to fix but i believe it will always hinder development.

by moving the piano keys back to the very start of runway32 aircraft would touch down on the flat roughly 200metres down the runway and on the flat section, that would be perfect giving around 2000metres of runway, if only! some cant handle the truth on this forum!

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
