Air Arabia......v. RYANAIR. or TCX.. or TUI. A name well known to most with a Bar service or an airline that is probably dry? Observing strict Islamic custom is not a good fix for Western travelers but I may be quite wrong since Emirates do quite well for us!

Given the choice I would go on a flight without the risk of tanked up Brits anyway.

Air Maroc did their homework. Slow start and they may have factored this in. Let's not write it off too soon. If MAN is achieving 100 per flight with competition then there maybe scope for the BHX catchment to pull back traffic. They do need to promote it better locally. Mr Barton needs to pick up a stronger commitment from new airlines to a minimum level of promotion. Not rocket science.

When any new airline starts at Birmingham, I always thingk the key is plenty of marketing and advertising in the Midlands, have Air Arabia Maroc done any? Look at what Jet2 did to launch their services?

I've seen a few online adverts with a couple walking on a beach but they were nothing that stood out and made me want to look deeper.

Surely this is down to lack of marketing? I find it hard to believe that BHX can’t support a two weekly service when up the road you have four carriers all on the same route?

I suppose it remains to be seen whether MAN-Agadir can handle so much for so long. I've lost count of the number of routes that seemed to be thriving for a season or two on multiple carriers only to see drastic cuts as prices start falling through the floor.

Given our record now I almost don't want to see the likes of Indigo, spicejet, Cathay, Westjet, and the others that have been rumoured, we could have our hopes up and then be fuming over their departure in a year or two.

There is no marketing as such.. Ok some airlines might put up a few billboards or an advert in the local press but it is the airport
that needs marketing not individual routes. They need to make people aware of the range and frequency of destinations (diminishing)that are available from an airport at the heart of the motorway network and with its own mainline railway station.
When they win an award don't just post it on their own web site and leave it at that.Very few see it there.
Spend some money on a prolonged advertising campaign in what they regard as their catchment area and concentrate on the destinations available and the accessibility of the airport.. Mention all the nice shops and bars but please don.t make them the focus.which i suspect they would at the moment. All airports have them.

For advertising teeming up with a Youtuber to advertise certain routes like Agadir could be a good and cheap way of advertising for the airport.

Could be.

Runway extension, new ATC tower, new pier, new airfield lighting, new ground based radar system, MAEL hangar, new fleet of fire and rescue vehicles, internal developments such as new security and extra bussing lounges. We should see work on the departure lounge extension start this year, then there is that £500 million make over masquerading as an ambitious master plan.

The money has definitely been spent in recent years but yet despite all of the above there will be very little expansion of the terminal(s) footprint. I suppose that is for a different thread.

I know that the airport work much closer than they used to with travel agents but given the numerous stories about people being nudged towards London there still seems to be a lot that needs to be done. There is also competition with incentives offered to travel agents for getting people to book through their airport such as MAG giving away five Minis last year to those who got the most booking through MAN.

I don't know where advertising is in the BHX budget but you can have the greatest product in the world but it's pointless if nobody knows about it.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
