Fair play to them. I can't see them lasting if I'm honest. Again though, it highlights the need for LBA's renewal as early as it is possible.

Wowser ...didnt realise it was the same Andy Clarke who left Asda under Walmart after sales fell off the edge of the cliff. I remember all the financial coverage at the time.

It’s just sad that have plumped for an airfield with no major cities near it and have put flights on to places such as CWL, IOM and LCY. A real kick in the teeth to LBA if you ask me, as we have been crying out for these routes for years. Honestly, can you see Eastern keeping a 1 plane base at LBA when they will have 3 based up the road?

Well you need to ask why LBA management haven't engaged with them to expand the route network. I suspect though that MME management will be subsidising the operation in some way.

I'm sure the Mayor of Tees Valley will be helping fund the Eastern operation from MME.

I fail to see how LBA could get the same kind of support when our local authority's can't come together to set up a Leeds City Region so that we could have an elected Mayor our own whom could make these kind of decisions. .
Sadly some won't agree, but what Leeds needs is a change of our Councillors in the next local elections. Because the ones that currently sits is absolutely useless in making big decisions.

A great report by the Yorkshire Post. Let's hope they continue with more of a supporting attitude towards LBA.
Sure it does not harm the papers profile when northern articles now displayed on Sky paper review and the BBC paper review.
Their Westminster correspondent was on Politics Live this week on the daily panel, bringing the paper a higher profile. The subject was HS2.
Sad that the BBC have no confidence in their local reporter, but readers of this forum no how bad they are, with Sky setting up local journalist reporters, Northern reporting should become a national norm.
It should be remembered Teeside was taken over by this Mayor, he is trying hard to secure its future, he may pay with his job, but he is having a go.

Given the economy in Tees valley I doubt they will be getting any public funding. More likely that the parent company of Tees Airport have done a canny deal with Eastern. Remember Tees is squashed between two AMP owned airports ...Newcastle and Leeds....so they must feel threatened.

Teesside airport is owned by the local authority. The Mayor of Teesside funding for the operation.

Yeah remind me who owns Teeside Airport?

I'm not sure about the point your trying to make here LBAspotter? Are you saying that bringing private public transport back into public ownership is the way forward?

No definitely not. especially not In Leeds/Bradford's case we have an owner in AMP Captial who look to be willing to invest in a lot of money.

Teeside Airport was purchased last year from Peel Group and brought back in Public ownership by the said Mayor. Now I know for a fact he needs to win votes to get reelected this summer and has been promising to bring new flights into Teeside. Job done, His done it, Great well done.
But I would question how is this been funded. Magic Money Tree, Local funds from Tees Valley Tax payers, Or Government funds? As the is no way on this earth Eastern Airways are doing this of there own backs without some kind of financial assistance...

Thanks all...I didnt realise this about Tees. Who ever owns it mind they seem to be pushing the right buttons. And there's plenty of public /part public owned airports that are doing very well..eg MAN . It depends on the public authority though...Manchester and the surrounding councils are very entrepreneurial and proactive ...hence the reason they are where they are in terms of development. And then on this side of the Pennines we have the 'lovely' Judith Blake and 'dynamic' Tom Riordan ...what a powerhouse.

See it was academics who wrote the paper stating that LBA expansion must be stopped. Yet again climate change advocates completely out of touch with economic reality and absolutely no constructive suggestions other than we should all go back to living in caves. Yes, climate change is happening and the aviation industry needs to do its bit to lessen emissions but I’m getting heartily sick of being preached at by the likes of Thunberg.

The problem with the climate change activists is that they only see want they want and ignore the effect on the rest of the world and what it may lead to.
People want to fly from LBA. Assuming they live close to LBA, they will have to travel further to an airport that offers the flight they want, so increasing carbon emmisions. Or am I seeing it too simplistic?

Too simplistic. Academics are obtuse by nature and need convoluted arguments. Otherwise somebody might think about putting them out of a cushy job...Or is that me being simplistic?

These Camels don't think much to "global warming"

Proper gammonathon this thread. Ruin the planet so you can carry on putting numbers in your special notebooks. Pathetic.

It's not about special notebooks but the ability in the modern age to travel. Take all modern forms of transport away and you still couldn't save the planet or reverse the damage done by mankinds presence on the planet. All mankind can do is minimise the damage it does from now on and stopping an airport like Leeds from having a few extra flights isn't going to make a difference in the grand scheme of things.

We know very little about the climate no matter what they tell us they don't really know. The climate is changing, that is certain but our climate has always changed.

This is nothing to do with adding numbers to a notebook and everything to do with our regions prosperity.

Heads Up!

For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
