▶️ Video Review: Birmingham Airport Videos

flugsnug again 🙂

A380 go-around and some spectacular rudder action when it lands on the second attempt.

I miss the atmosphere of the Elmdon terminal and the grassy area before the Freeport was built. There was a small hut near the Warwickshire Flying School with little Cessna 152 types, selling refreshments and tables outside selling aviation stuff for the spectators between Viscount and DC9 start ups, one learnt a lot being close up to the action, a very satisfying afternoon wagging it from my horrid school getting an education in something that interested me deeply rather than the torture of log tables or religious education and well worth the disciplinary stuff that followed my return to classes.

The current terminal set up offers nothing to youngsters and that is restrictive and sad and ancient folks like myself hate it. BHX needs a Manchester style viewing area that may help shape the minds and opinions of our future leaders and citizens, in my youth, aircraft were noisy, Smokey and glorious machines and I genuinely miss those days.

Yes Jenny, I well remember that area in the 1960s (the wooden hut was a cafe) going back to the pleasure flights at weekends and watching the likes of British Midland Argonauts, Air Spain Britannias plus BEA Viscount etc. You would would get blasted from the aircraft engines and the smell of fumes - couldn't happen today heath & safety and all that.

Happy days wonder if our path ever crossed.

Quite possibly Rollo, those days were special and sadly, very different times. I recall the JAT B727 and the Spantax DC9s and the tremendous din they made when starting engines but it was the performance around getting the engines on the Viscount going and the unique noise of the aircraft, wonderful days! There was a footbridge across the A45 near the 06/24 runway with a good view, I used to set up there with my trusty Zenith camera, bullet proof and gave great results, the Photosniper!

I remember the footbridge used to walk through Elmdon park and cross over it from our house by Solihull Ice Rink a lifetime ago, keep safe.

Should be be on the nostalgia thread really.

And life before this crisis in 2019, anybody remember getting on a plane and going to Spain 😍

You also get a mug shot of me for a bonus 🙂

Cracking video.

Gave me great sadness and great joy in equal measure.

I grew up and worked in Birmingham but I barely recognised anything in that video. Has the entire city centre become pedestrian only, excepting trams?

Heads Up!

For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
