Bet you all now it will never happen, LBA will never get its new terminal, like every other planned transport improvement in leeds it never happens, simple as!! Other airports in smaller catchment areas continue to announce new routes and airlines due to their superior infrastructure. On the whole though the lefty greta thunberg environmentalist types are gradually taking over and damaging the aviation industry in this country, their own self interest overrules the true fact that air travel is becoming cleaner!

Voting at the local elections has just been made a little more difficult for me. I can stand by the initial decision of the local councillor who backed LBA expansion but he is of the party who has just put the spanner in the works. What do you do, there's no choice anymore?

Im not happy about the delay this will cause but I am hopeful that if nothing else a National Aviation policy will at least be fair in its application. Theres going to be plenty of pressure from those airports whose development is now in suspense so its good that LBA is not fighting the battle alone.

Are you sure about that LBAYORKIE? These are the same people who have banned Internal Combustion engines in cars and vans from 2030 in favour of electric. With this decision I can't help but think they have been swayed, for whatever reeason, by the looney brigade.

Thank you WH. I said I was being dim but maybe not so dim as he hasn't exactly made a name for himself yet.

Well as the final planning approval cannot be signed off, the previously approved extension still will have valid planning consent. It was stated that when final approval was given for the new terminal, the previous planning approval would be withdrawn.

Can't see LBA even considering the previous extension though until such time as a definite no is given, and first we have to wait indefinitely for a decision on a public inquiry, then the inquiry itself and then the possible refusal. We could be still in the same situation 3 years from now.

So if the scheme is canned completely how does failing major infrastructure ever get renewed. No renewal of roads, airports or other major infrastructure schemes. Meanwhile, China and India are building literally hundreds of airports at the economic expense of the UK and if we are to believe the environmentalists, it's a futile response that will achieve nothing.
Its called the great reset, the east with their ever growing economies and large infrastructure plans whilst here we have the greta types essentially changing the world order, its all one big plan that when u sit down and think about it you can see it happening, china has certainly its plans into action for sure!

@LBAYORKIE

The trouble is, who decides what balance is? We have a huge imbalance of air transport, not just in the wider UK but even between the regions. Just one airport, Heathrow, takes the overall lions share of all UK air journeys. Yet a small regional airport serving one of the largest cities in the country is currently denied from growing passengers to a mere 7mppa. Every major city knows aviation is a catalyst for inward investment which is why cities are generally keen to see their local airport develop. Denying LBA and other regional airports a chance to compete with their larger neighbours is also denying their regional economies from thriving and competing on a level playing field. If you are trying to attract a major investor, why would they choose a lazy backwater city where getting there is difficult, when you can pick a city which offers the benefits of international connections and where it's easy to reach.

@Aviador I'm with you. I'm politically lost. I will never lend Labour my vote ever again since they have the backbone of jelly. Conservatives are just vile and I want the party to know they know longer have my support (despite my local councillor supporting the terminal) and I'm not sure about the Lib Dems - yet to email the candidate to get his take on the terminal.

I may end up voting for an independent candidate.

As for the terminal approval etc; do you expect anything less from a minister who is useless at his best? And a party/government that make one decision and do the opposite?

@Sherburnflyer92 The Lib Dems are firmly against airport developments, Labour are nationally against airport developments but locally they're a mishmash. The Conservatives seem to be a mishmash too. Like you it's likely I wont be voting for any of the traditional parties. More people will follow suit when the environmental cause starts to burn a hole in everybody's pocket.

If AMP have any sense they'll tell the UK government to stick the investment into UK PLC and offer to take their private investment elsewhere.

I think the affected airports should join forces and lobby the government.

Conservative members of the planning panel gave their support so I dont have any problem returning the favour.

Whilst I've been the biggest advocate about voting for your local person rather then party; I'm sorry but for this time round the idiots down in Number 10 need a massive message sending. And since we cannot do it for a GE I'll do it at local level.

What a joke!! If it was not in green belt land they could crack on and build this given the council go ahead?. I feel this move is just to buy a bit of time the inevitable is coming I feel the masses have got their way and this wont go ahead now just my opinion of course.

When you say the masses? Every green nimby in the country writes to oppose plans like this. Only locals writes to support them. That's the injustice in this as it's like me trying to have a say on what goes on in Glasgow or Newquay when it's none of my business. The environmentalist will claim it has wider implications but they fail to consider the industrial growth of Asian, African and Middle Eastern countries. Do you think the Chinese would accept their complaint letters about the growth of their airports? No, of course not.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
