I have some sympathy with those involved for reasons I can't discuss. I would love to comment on this further having some insight, but it would be inappropriate for me to discuss it in an open public setting.
Then why did you bother to comment?

quik 123 I think what Aviador has said is fine, he is saying he is sympathetic, but likely he has knowledge of airport processes, or internal controls, so it would be inappropriate to comment here. We have to bear in mind that the forum is public, and so I assume that is why he isn’t commenting. If he had just said he was sympathetic without a comment, people might have said why. If he didn’t mention it, and we all did the same, it would be a very empty forum.

I think I'd have preffered silence. I too have some knowledge of internal procedures at LBA. If you've got something to say, please do. If you don't, stay quiet. But I hate this 'I know something but I'm not telling'

Quite the opposite actually. I am itching to share my thoughts with you guys but it wouldn't be right for me to do so.

In hindsight you're right, it would've been better to keep quiet, but having done the job, sometimes I find myself defending observed behaviors which might be explained by having a little insight.

I will leave it there.

I appreciate and very much respect your previous knowledge of the inside, so to speak and it's unwise to reveal too much, no matter how tempting....but in this instance what annoyed me was the poor management ability of the supervisor..The hall was virtually empty at the time but he was sat lounging about at the end of it shouting to his staff..
Instead of coming 10 paces to me and explaining in a manner, someone with managerial ambitions should do, he proved why he was over promoted...
If he'd spoken this OAP he would have found out he'd spent most of his working life at the sharp end of Policing..before becoming an undertaker, can tell you as many stories from that as being a cop😂😂...
One of the great things you learnt was how to spot this sort from a mile of .. Honestly they're clueless but know how to tick boxes

Now that is something that can't be defended and I fully support what you say. My reference was more relating to the procedural aspects of your experience you described, and my thoughts would have relevance at all UK airports with the same set-up. That is where I have to refrain from saying anymore.

Quite so

Be prepared for them to be slower for several weeks as the staff get used to them, and have a higher proportion of secondaries for a while - that’s been the experience elsewhere so far when the CT machines are introduced. Hopefully after a while things will improve and staff will be up to speed.

There is no point in using the new liquid scanners if the airport that you are using coming back doesn’t have them
Especially if you are using a cheap flight there and back for £29 etc 😎

Sat in departures ready for my flight to OPO. Queue for security was nearly to Greggs when I joined. Screens were saying 35mins wait but I was through in 22mins. 2 new scanners were in use but I was directed to an older scanner on the far left hand side so I still had to take liquids out. I noted many new security officers on training so hopefully fully staffed for the summer.
Airport is really busy for a February afternoon. Couldn’t see any empty tables in the cabin bar.

Enjoy your flight and time in Portugal. 🙂

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
