Understood, I think the OP was just using a turn of phrase and didn’t really mean anything by it in terms of timelines.

Ros Jones reckons it’ll be open earlier for non passenger flights, not sure what they have planned but perhaps they intend to open it next year and then try get on the airlines planning agendas for 2026. Whether any airlines will want to invest in something that’s already closed is another matter entirely, massive subsidy will be required regardless!
Massive subsidy = massive losses..
It beggars belief they would go straight back down the same path that failed last time, particularly when the aviation industry is more challenging now than it was when DSA first opened.

Just noted on one of Jet2's media, a plea from a woman to help Doncaster by flying from there. Jet2's response, predictably, was
' we have no plans to fly from Doncaster'.

Where has this been posted?

To be fair, they’d probably say that anyway, but actually I don’t think they see any future at a reopened Doncaster.

Maybe Coventry Airport should try that too, you know, do it for Coventry? Then again, what about Humberside Airport to support Hull and Newquay airports, maybe Jet2 should help them out too and be a bit more charitable?

In all seriousness I think Jet2 next target will be Southampton once it’s extension is completed
Maybe, but they will be keeping an eye on LGW too. Not many more places to cover.

I wonder if the person asking Jet2 on social media is one of those that calls DSA their ‘beloved’ airport..? 🤮

I think that you should take a leaf out of @Finger 66 book, and have a lie down.

Actually TUI (Thomson Fly) did set up three aircraft base at Coventry, a bit daft really as BHX is one of their main bases and is about 30 minutes from Coventry centre. Unsurprisingly it didn't last.
They did indeed, actually only pulled out because of a dispute over the building of an actual terminal (the one they were using was effectively a porta cabin!) but the local council got their way and the rest is history. Also recall Wizzair and Hapag Lloyd Express doing ok from there. Again though, too many local airports to make it viable.

Eh how can Jet2 operate from an airport that is closed?? Bizarre request if you ask me.
Well this is it, no airline can plan to fly from a closed airport. Very least they would need to have a commitment that the airport is going to reopen, so that will have to be when all funding is in place and the physical work of reinstatement is under way. However, the remaining operators in the tender process will already be engaging to gauge appetite which will no doubt include Jet2 amongst the others.

oh of course, but where are these peoples brain cells? the airport literally isn't open and wont be for a long time, the desperation is hilarious. Even Jet2 publicly stating they wont fly from there.. they still wont take it as definite answer. They will convince themselves that as soon as it it opens, Wizz, TUI, Jet2, Emirates & Virgin will be queuing up to use the airport. oh you have to laugh.

It was Phil Meeson who put the tin hat on Doncaster ops ...He said Jet2 would never operate from there, because the company always needed to be close to their customers...

It wasn't a put down line, it was a statement of fact. The only thing close to DSA are fields...It is the lack of customers that have and will continue to put off potential airlines.

As for Jet2, nothing has changed ..

To quote Phillip Meesom a few years ago, DSA was built surrounded by green fields not people. It made an ideal bomber base as the noisy Vulcans didn't disturb people but it will never make a successful passenger airport. Why would Jet2 even think of moving all their base, staff, building etc., down to DSA LBA & EMA give them great coverage of the area. You all live in cloud cuckoo land, can't believe your councils are going to waste all that money

In fairness, It folio has stepped down now and no longer has any significant influence in the direction of travel. I’m not suggesting the companies views have changed but the views of PM aren’t as relevant now, sadly.

Also, when he said those things the business was a lot different to how it looks now. I think they could put aircraft in DSA with little to no impact on LBA and EMA but the question is is it scaleable? The directors are all about growth in new bases, is there scope for growth at DSA beyond 3-4 aircraft? Probably not.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
