Looks like a warehouse on a budget! Surely they could have come up with something better than that?
No, it's an airport terminal on a budget. The wonderful glass fronted new terminal that looked fantastic was blocked by the Tory party, remember? What we have now was designed very much to a budget way back in 2018. Redesigning it wasn't an option as it would have needed a fresh planning application with yet more politically motivated delays. It was literally this or nothing. So we make the best of it as far as design is concerned. At least the existing terminal is now also being totally refurbished too.

I first went to LBA in 1968 when they had a "brand new Terminal" and it was great. Lovely big Panoramic window through which you could watch all the movements. Back then there were 250k passengers per annum (winter months now have more pax), most days there were 10 to 12 flights with a 74 seat Viscount being the largest airliner.
Things have changed a great deal since then and a lot of members do not know what it was like than so please can we have less griping about the new facility and wait until it is operational and you have used it yourself. We would all like a brand new modern Terminal with plenty of glass and architectural features but would you be prepared to pay £1000 to fly to Dublin? That would be the cost of tickets to provide those features, even if you got planning approval.
The real proof is whether the passengers think it is an improvement, not a group of aviation enthusiasts.

Couple of thoughts on the video, I understand it's only an artist's impression but:
1 - I hope the wildflowers stay, and that LBA employs the necessary staff to maintain them. Not too much to ask for a bit of beauty.
2 - The border and baggage reclaim finally look like those of a major international airport.
3 - I am seeing a couple of tight choke points in reclaim that could get messy in peak summer. Looks to be similar to current reclaim. Hopefully it's a bit bigger than it looks.
4 - Really hope they stick with the tiled flooring and not lino! And for the love of God don't put floor stickers on it!
5 - Zero chance there'll be physical barriers guiding pax to the aircraft (probably just artistic liberty)

I believe there are going to be barriers outside the building to segregate passengers where possible as there are going to be bus and Ambilift bays either side of stand walk ways.

In relation to the new stands, fencing is going up to cordon off the area whilst works take place. This will also mean stand 21/A/B/C is temporarily closed.

As far as im aware this is the most upto date artist impression of how the terminal extension will look, as i keep mentioning that dark section 3/4th up which i presume are tinted windows or similar and the darker section along the bottom should break up the all grey box we currently have and provide us with a great looking extension, i just hope this comes off, is it shown in any plans?
No that is an older render but the latest shows the darker windows but the light reflections in this image make it look different. Personally I definitely prefer the latest render showing changes to the associated landscaping.

I'm definitely liking what looks to be a wide-bodied 4 engine aircraft taking-off. A340, A380 or B747?

According to one of the Yorkshire Post premium articles, which I can only see the headline of (without paying!), Aviation Minister Mike Kane flew into LBA earlier this week to view the terminal extension, and to meet the Jet2 CEO.

Oh to be a fly on the wall

747 going by the tail fin shape.

That'll be some taken off for a wide body to be that high that soon. I think the days of 4 engine wide bodies at LBA are, sadly, over.

Well if thats the latest render with no breaking up of the grey then sadly its a no no for me, not good at all!
If you Compare the image i loaded on here which looks smart and stylish against the apparent latest render then i certainly know which one id pick!
Yet the airside finish is very smart indeed, its looks great. Its certainly a terminal of two halves!

Confused, did this happen tonight? Don't recall seeing that while I was in today, nor any OpNots. Or is that the plan when it does eventually happen?

Where are all the cars going to go as this landscaping is currently a large car park?

The same place they went last summer at a guess.

Global Aviation are coming to Leeds with their A380 equipment, LBA to be rebranded Leeds London North. 😁

Decent article from Cockpitking (informative website all round)
Excellent article. A few errors with dates and historical facts but otherwise bang on. However the goings on in the USA due to the actions of an orange bloke may well reduce demand for tourism there, at least in the short term.

I personally think the A321XLR is the perfect fit for LBA longhaul. Does anyone know how this aircraft handles crosswinds and LVPs?
I would think very similar to the A321NEO. Wizz Air generally have a good low visibility record at LBA provided its runway 32 with Cat 3. On 14 it's more of an issue, but that applies to all airlines and aircraft types.

As for crosswinds, the A321 has landed at LBA in plenty of crosswinds, but has also diverted too. Once again, that applies to others though, and contrary to popular belief it's not just an LBA issue. BHX gets some really bad crosswinds with its runway pointing the same direction as ours, despite being lower and longer. Emirates' A380 has diverted a few times recently, but it's not holding BHX back. Nor should the LBA diversion rate hold back LBA as its less of an issue than some like to claim.

The problem is that the A321XLR is a perfect fit for hundreds of airports and there will be a finite number if them. For United or AA, they may well be used at smaller airports. But in current circumstances that is likely to mean CVG-CDG or EWR-DBV. Particularly with the Trump factor, the prospect that tourism to US from UK will resume seems ever more distant.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
