And yet the other day lbaspotter reported that Ryanair we’re increasing the number of weekly flights and we’re swapping a 738 for a max. The type of thing that absolutely dwarfs the 800 passengers a month being carried by Aurigny. I don’t think its wrong to point out the fact that routes get chopped and changed but its important to paint the whole picture, don’t you think ?
I think from memory we have about 12 more ryanair flights in peak summer next year plus of course we swap an 800 for a max so yes a pretty big increase. It would be nice for a change though to see an announcement of something thats say abit more juicy ie LH, TK, U2 expansion etc, at the moment we are seeing bugger all!

I think its important to value the range of airlines and destinations offered don't you think? Every passenger / airline brings value to LBA.

Do you not think new potential operators would look at how many airlines / what destinations are served competitors or not to gage the demand / popularity for the airport? and airport with one / two airlines doesn't show much choice, imagination or strong catchment area..

An airport coming to an airlines desk with 10 airlines operating from it will have a stronger case then say one with 2.

Yes FR increase Summer, however chopped Jan. KLM x4 daily Winter yes great, I'm simply highlighting the volatile industry at the moment.

It seems pretty clear that this is going to be a winter with many airlines cutting back on many routes for one reason or another. Cuts in January are nothing new. We've had them before and we will have them in the future too. The overall trend though, year on year, is upwards.

At the community event, VH said that on average LBA makes 50p profit per passenger. So I'm sure the small airlines do bring value, but let's be honest, in financial terms, it's tiny. 800 passengers per month.x 50p = £400. The airport will have earned more form Jet2 in a couple of hours this morning than they will from Aurigny all year.

So then the second question is, do airlines with smaller operations bring some kind of prestige / interest factor that helps the airport win business from other airlines. Maybe, but we live in a very different world in terms of data, analytics and the sheer amount of insight that airlines have about their markets. Jet2 will have a phenomenal understanding of the market across the North of England, as will Ryanair and easyJet and for that matter Emirtates, Turkish, Lufthansa and all the other names that get touted around. In my opinion, the choice about whether they operate from here will be based on hard data and an identified market opportunity that is is consistent with their business plan and strategy. In many ways *IF*. easyJet ever expand from here in a meaningful way it will be precisely because they see a duopoly - in much the same way Jet2's expansion into LPL made strategic sense for them.

There's no doubting that Jet2 and Ryanair are key to LBAs profit margin but also LBA as an airport styles itself as Yorkshires airport and part of is connecting Yorkshire as a region and airlines like Aurigny are a part of. A small part yes but still a part of providing that connectivity.

TUI is a good shout (2 aircraft base)???
If so, I'll eat my hat. (I'd have to buy one first). They'd only be here a year or so before moving the whole thing to DSA! If TUi open a base here then DSA mk 2 is even more doomed than it slready is.

Lufthansa would be nice. Highly unlikely, but nice.

Or Blue Islands, perhaps 🤔
That would possibly make sense. Guernsey instead of Aurigny, and explain the absence of LBA from the Aurigny drop down menu (although that might be temporary). Jersey too would nice though it might be a stretch with Jet2 already on the route. They do NCL and EMA and NOR already so why not another airport on the Eastern side of England?

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
