I see that Paphos has now been affected due to drone strikes in Cyprus

It's a year away yet.
Delay the launch maybe but to pull them for what?

The geopolitical landscape changes by hours not days, not weeks, not months and certainly not years. What is headline news and is on the radar today will very much not be in April for example.

Oh and in the meantime Wizz have launched Sofia to Sharm and Sofia to Hurgahda. Starting October.

I think the company needs to be measured and calculated. It also needs to not be reactive like some members suggest. Re asses come October time. As in October the geopolitical landscape maybe completely different. Maybe - will be.

Yes, when there are issues elsewhere people seem to go for Spain as a 'safe' alternative. Lets hope Jet2 and others have enough in the bank to see them through this uncertain period.
Well things need to be sorted asap with the Iranian regime made up of hamas, hezbollah and the like eliminated.
Lets remember that basically anyone travelling longhaul east is been affected by these events with most middle east hub airports been affected, one thing is sure the arabs wont put with this for long!

At the end of this month and going into early April we see some big increases by Jet2 and quite a few routes restarting for summer to Ibiza, Mahon, Dubrovnik, Cyprus-Larnaca, Corfu, Crete Heraklion, Rhodes. Naples, Sicily-Catania, Girona, Reus, Bodrum, Dalaman & Izmir.

Out for a walk this morning and it crossed my mind as I was disturbed (lol) by a 733 flying overhead whether the current ME crisis and soaring oil prices may hasten the departure of the 733s? Obviously they will sit tight for a little while yet but if this lasts too much longer then holiday demand will be hit from several angles so may initiate some fleet reduction. Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

UK airlines hedge their fuel cost by buying fuel for the year ahead when the price is right. This manoeuvre allows airlines some flexibility. There is of course the actual availability of the fuel itself which could become a problem at some point.

I cant see an issues occurring myself, if the americans protect ships passing through the straits of hormuz and keep the skies clear of the Iranian sharhed drones then in my opinion all will be ok. Regarding american oil reserves a certain south american country was in the news just recently thats upped oil reserves for the US and currently stored in Houston which the orange man made a point of in his speech yesterday. Clever thinking!

Agreed. But that is a very big if where Trump is concerned.

Some of the noisy fuel guzzlers will still be around in 2027 so even a year ahead could determine a change of plan. If only DT actually had a plan, then we may all be even better off and there wouldn't be this uncertainty

This post on X by ‘Analytic Flying’ does a great job of explaining fuel hedging. (They have a great website and X feed too in fact).

https://x.com/analyticflying/status/2032300746918785123?s=46

For those who don’t do X, I can try to summarise what they’re saying here:

Fuel hedging doesn’t mean an airline is fully protected from fuel price rises.

Airlines sell tickets up to 11 months in advance, but they buy fuel on the day of the flight, so hedging helps reduce the risk of fuel prices rising after tickets are sold.

However, airlines don’t hedge 100% of their fuel because prices can also fall. If they fully hedged and prices dropped, they would be stuck paying above-market prices.

Most airlines therefore hedge only part of their expected fuel use, mainly in the near term.

So hedging reduces risk but doesn’t remove it, which is why airlines like Jet2 will still feel some impact if fuel prices move sharply.

I was coincidentally speaking to two couples who would normally use Jet2 to Bergerac. Both said the prices were now ridiculously high, I sure on couple said with bags it was going to cost £1200!.

The upshot is that one couple had booked EMA to Bergerac and the other have costed and are about to book LBA-AMS-Bordeaux which is about half the price.

Is this supply/demand at play? Seems wrong that they are not satisfying demand.

We need more competition to stop this kind of thing from happening. Imagine where we'd be right now had Monarch survived. I think LBA would be a lot cheaper to fly from.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
