Wizz Air cutting Gatwick flights

Wizz Air is downsizing at London Gatwick in order to cut costs. It will start shifting Gatwick flights to its base at London Luton. “Gatwick is expensive and we have been operating an inferior set of slots there. We think that we can enhance financial performance by operating that capacity from Luton,” said CEO József…

Lets hope out own airline Jet2 don't find it similar when they move into Gatwick. \whilst the Jet2 base doesn't directly affect us it could have an impact on annual profits for the group.

Wizz air downsizing at london gatwick and moving more of its ops into luton id say is a positive for LBA as it shows there moving away from the larger airports where competition is more intense, by using LTN, LPL and LBA there using the less busy traffic airports, it also to a degree rules out a move from LPL and LBA to MAN for that reason altho wizz do fly to eastern destinations currently not served from MAN so that still worries me a little.
Funny how wizz are moving some of their ops out of gatwick as jet2 move in!

It makes sense for WizzAir to move some ops to LTN from LGW. They need to consolidate their routes as the more destinations you have, the higher your overheads. As for starting MAN ops, whatever our reservations, it is a conspicuous gap in their route network. Whatever reservations we may have, it seems inevitable that it will happen, if not in 2026 then sooner or later.

Anyone know how Wizz Air’s latest game has for paid off for Leeds & Liverpool? As I heard from other side of hill that an agreement may have been sorted to stop them going to Manchester’s new low cost terminal.
I havent heard , but may hear when i go to the next LPL Consultative Committee Meeting in a couple of weeks.
They would be daft to burn their bridges .

Wizz Air Winter 2026/2027 Leeds/Bradford schedule is now on sale.

In what i see as a positive move, Wizz Air have put there winter 2026/2027 schedule on sale. Leeds/Bradford continues to see up to 8x weekly flights to 3x destinations - Warsaw in Poland, Bucharest & Cluj Napoca in Romania using a mix of Airbus A320Neo, Airbus A321-200 & Airbus A321Neo aircraft types.
I'd expect to see extra rotations added for festive period at a later date. Would be even better if the reinstated some of the lost/suspended routes too, eg Katowice, Krakow, Gdansk & Wroclaw

I for one will wait with patience. Gdańsk, Krakow and maybe Katowice would be good to have back. Wroclaw is more or less sufficiently served by Ryanair with their 3X Weekly flights in the summer schedule, and was overserved with both Ryanair and Wizz on the route (yes, I can back this up with data if need be)

If we are to believe what some are saying on here it will be next spring/summer when they increase their flights, ie when the terminal is finished.
Hm I think that was a hint at based units, there is zero reason Ryanair, Wizz & easyJet can not expand using the terminal and quieter times of the day.

Good to see it on sale, however x8 slightly meh. Hopefully more to add, c’mon Wizz

I understand peoples frustration about wizz however you gotta think about there difficulties in the aircraft industry and where to place them for suitable bases and routes.Personally I think Leeds have benefited well having routes that were Doncaster’s.Think about bhx though we had 3 routes before last summer now we have 6 .I have been disappointed with wizz they haven’t announced another uk base up north for likes of Liverpool or Manchester which would suit them otherwise.Gotta be patient.Patience is a virtue

You may not have patience but no one can knock your enthusiasm, and certainly nowt wrong with being passionate about your local airport and wanting the best for it
See wizz air axed these routes from bhx in the last 5 years
Tirana-Now operated by Ryanair
Iasi-Not served
Larnaca-Now operated by EasyJet,Jet2 and Tui
Vilnius-not served
Krakow-Now operated by Ryanair Jet2 and Easyjet(WS)
Warsaw-Now operated by Ryanair
Riga-Not served
Poznan-now Operated by Ryanair
Cluj napoca-Not served

There’s 4/9 routes now being served by majority Ryanair

5 of those that are not.Put into perspective Romania is a huge market for bhx to expand from and I think bringing back Iasi and Cluj could be icing on the cake.Theres a strong market for wizz at bhx

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
