Very uplifting report WH. Thank you so much for your efforts. Was there any information on the additional stands positioning?
No, but they are shown in the airport development plan. Pretty much a case of where there's grass now, there could be concrete later, along the old runway 28/current apron. Obviously, the required distance has to be maintained from the runway so mainly at the Eastern end of the apron up to the terminal.

Although I have provided full detail in the Consultative Committee thread, it's worth posting here as well (given its been a long time coming) that the terminal development is due to commence in site in September. Funding is secured for the 1000 sq ft extension, the complete reconfiguration if the existing terminal and the construction of additional aircraft stands as and when they are needed. (Up to 10 additional stands with 35 in total).

The contractor is to be appointed in August. Tenders are due back 7th July.

It feels to me like the bells should be ringing in celebration,.although so far the response has been somewhat muted on here!
Really exciting times, its made my day reading your report wh, thankyou. Everything i was hoping for both with the terminal and apron expansion is going to happen, im like a kid with sweets!

Although extremely disappointing at the time the decision to pull the plans for a completely new terminal was the correct one, enabling plan B to go ahead quickly at an ambitious airport that is obviously now going places. Much better than getting bogged down in a time consuming and costly Judicial Review with an uncertain outcome. The protest groups have been outmanoeuvred!

to be honest I think the location of the new terminal and size/look did look amazing it would of been fantastic for that new development to go ahead. but agreed with Len above. get it built. Hopefully the new extension can again be extended if needed. I do hope the atheistic look of the outside is improved of the original building and does match the new extension.

The Leeds threads have been a bit quite today, so me being a bit sad and bored I thought I would try to envisage what 100,000 square feet equates to in real terms. So I wanted something to compare against that was local to the airport and would give a sense of scale. The extension will be similar in size (4/5th) of the Westside retail park in Guiseley. So if you think of all those stores empty and then replaced with carrousels, gates seating etc, it will be a massive space for the airport to enhance and expand facilities 👍

The actual size of each floor will be more like 300ft x 112ft give or take with the basement floor not used for passengers so a very tight squeeze for 5+1 carrousels!

As you used Westside retail park as an example, think the old running track opposite the retail park. That's just about spot on for each floor level.

Ha, I know it’s 3 floors and no I didn’t mean the car park as well, I’m bored and sad, but far from stupid 🤪it’s still indicative of available space and it worked for me to put things in perspective, but if it’s vague as for others, by all means ignore. I thought I’d use it as a conversation starter as things seemed a bit Pete Tong today…..

I suppose that a fair indicator of the length of the extension is the fact that 150 metres of the external walkway is to be removed. Only the part beyond the extension, down to the Eastern end, will remain.

One of the carousels is located remotely from the other four, around a corner, and the domestic one is seperate again.

If it helps, the existing walkway is 275m in length.

4/5th the size of westside retail park? Are you 100% sure( sorry to question) and are we talking about the whole L shape the retail park is? If so though yes its a massive space/size!

My static caravan is 35ft in length so imagine 8.5statics in a row and 10 side by side so yes pretty big haha

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
