That area originally had a high ceiling as it was ground floor only. It was bright, spacious and modern at the time it was built.. Putting an upper floor in where there really wasn't the height to do it, demonstrates the limited and sometimes less than ideal investment in the terminal when council owned.

The girders really aren't a focal point. It is instinctive to look at the floor and the way ahead not at the ceiling. I don't really understand why you're knocking this. You know the reasons why we are in this situation. Had the building of the new terminal proceeded we wouldn't be in this predicament, but here we are. The airport really have done the best they can to improve the appearance of the hall. It isn't all about appearance, you also have to consider the air circulation and a low ceiling will only make the hall feel more stuffy when it's busy. I don't really know what you think would have improved it more, perhaps you could share your ideas?

The upper floor was built as part of the terminal refit during Bridgeports ownership, not the council. It was around the same time as the design to 'fill' in the front of the building which never happened.

Ok thanks. Well then, it demonstrates too the inadequate investment made by Bridgepoint, who were sold the airport because the council's recognised they were not in a position to invest in it sufficiently. At last, now, we have an owner who is prepared to invest in a meaningful way.

Following me contacting LBA in respect of advertising improved facilities, I have today received the following response;

You are correct that we are due to start terminal enhancements over the coming months. We will ensure this is communicated to passengers once the designs have been approved and work has started. As with any major project like this, we of course want everyone to know that we will be enhancing the Airport, but we have to ensure everything is finalised before we communicate this.

I was up there myself earlier today and I quite like the look in Check-in Hall A. Colour scheme draws your eyes to the business part of the job…getting bags into the system and bodies to Security.

Although I have provided full detail in the Consultative Committee thread, it's worth posting here as well (given its been a long time coming) that the terminal development is due to commence in site in September. Funding is secured for the 1000 sq ft extension, the complete reconfiguration if the existing terminal and the construction of additional aircraft stands as and when they are needed. (Up to 10 additional stands with 35 in total).

The contractor is to be appointed in August. Tenders are due back 7th July.

It feels to me like the bells should be ringing in celebration,.although so far the response has been somewhat muted on here!

We've never been here before. At no point has the airport been out to tender and secured many millions of funding, and reached the stage they are now at. This will be the biggest project at LBA since the runway extension.
