Still using the B787 in summer.

What's galling is, looking at April and May, there was actually a strong uptake of J on the majority of flights. God knows what AA is doing.

More business for the shuttle over the 7 months Aces?

Or will pax be happy to switch to other carriers - well UA and VS/DL who operate to hubs from MAN?

I guess the issue is the Loyalty / Gold Card holders (or whatever the term is now) who may sigh but put up with flying via LHR.

Problem for BA is that there is a new generation of frequent flyers who will have grown up without BA, and have no residual loyalty with them. MAN may well be a dying market for them without substantial change.

Wondered how long it would be before there was a comment that another hand was at work on this. See post on that other forum. (apologies if this reference conflicts with policy).

Indeed - a query cryptic comment I thought.

Could refer to almost anyone flying TATL (current or proposed) ex MAN - as soon as anyone expands it is at AA's expense...

There's a note on another forum about the current state of long haul on AA out of ORD.

The only remaining year-round destinations now are LHR, PVG, NRT and BJS (I haven't fact checked this) - so, disappointing though it is to lose the year-round service, that was pretty distinguished company MAN was keeping there!

Chicago hasn't been year round for a while. The season 2018 will be the shortest yet tho and probably the last.

It's a shame for AA, but I wonder whether a new entrant is teed up either for ORD or another Midwest gateway.

Could Virgin look at Minneapolis or Detroit because they are both Delta hubs? Would make AA cut down on ORD?

I don't want to raise false hopes but the AA web site shows non-stop flights MAN-ORD and fares from Sunday 25th March still.
Do I take it they've simply not updated their web site if in fact flights are not restarting until June?

Where did the news of the reduced season come from out of interest. It's not made Routes News yet as far as I can see.

Oops - I should have fact checked after all.

And yes Land23R - AA still showing (and selling) MAN-CHI from March 25:

I have to say I haven't seen a press release, but the same applied for JFK so it's probably on the cards...

I strongly suspect you are right Dobbo. It just seems pretty poor to me if the decision has been taken and yet AA are still displaying, presumably bookable, flights from 25 March. I was just curious from where Ethan got his information.

checked in for PHL this morning and they said ORD wasn’t starting until June but confirmed it was a B787. Also said they were expecting PHL to change to B787 for summer period which is not such good news IMHO as we would loose PE.

The information was from airliners.net. Have no idea about the reliability of the source, but also mentioned new DFW-KEF route. It happened like this for JFK, but cutting EDI-JFK was also rumoured and didn't happen, so I suppose there's a slim chance.

Sadly, bad news for MAN invariably turns out to be true, and Little G had the June resumption confirmed this morning.

If the a/c changes on the PHL, the B788 has 226 seats compared to the 258 on the A332, according to seat guru. However, there are 28 J class sets instead of only 20 on the Airbus

Was there any reason? I assume it is simply cutting the route to the core summer months where the B788 is best deployed and simply not operating it with the B752...

That's pretty big news! Not sure AA currently base 787s at PHL.

789s have Y+...but I guess this must be 788s?

If so that's 8 extra J class seats but 83 fewer basic economy seats... 40 fewer every day if you include economy plus.

As previously noted, no 787s are based in the former US Airways bases of Phoenix or Philadelphia. I can’t see the 787 operating the Philly route in the near future.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
