Last day of AA54/55. Massive loss!! I actually remember the 1st service in 1986.

In no way I can see this as progress - seen some arguments about direct west coast having an effect on transfers, etc..

And now we have the 767 on PHL. Not permanent I know, but it shows their disregard for MAN. Still lots of whispers about an ORD replacement, with the candidates ranging from the sublime to the ridiculous.

The demise of AAL54/55 is clearly bad news. But there is one modest silver lining. The pattern operated this year was the worst of all worlds: a short-season service cherrypicking the most lucrative dates only. An operation like this serves as a spoiler, messing up the economics of the route for another carrier which would otherwise consider a serious year-round service.

The other operator guilty of this practice is Air Canada Rouge. They should either push off, or provide a decent full season operation. Air Transat do a great job to prevail against them but it must be frustrating to see the peak season yields compromised like this whilst they do all the legwork outside the peak season. It would be far better to have Air Transat enjoy all of the peak season rewards underpinning a more ambitious frequency in the shoulder periods and the winter. But at least Rouge's programme lasts slightly longer than AAL54/55.

Yes, I realise that we enthusiasts enjoy occasional glimpses of the aircraft used by the 'spoiler' airline. But for the long-term viability of the route it is better that they withdraw and leave the serious players to get on with it.

Totally Agree EGCC especially in respect of Rouge

They have had 2 or 3 seasons to bed the service etc but we are no further on.

Sorry either stick or twist.

We'll take Rouge at BHX if you lot don't want them! (y)

How do loads compare between Rouge and Air Transat? Is one preferred by passengers to any substantial degree?

It's not that we don't want them. But we do want a serious full-season operation from them. Not a token effort which trashes the economics of the route for a more committed operator. They actually stifle the potential of the market.

I don't have the split for market share on MAN-YYZ. But Air Transat are present to some extent year-round. Rouge for just a short-season cherrypicking the Summer peak in isolation. And they're not daily then.

As we already know AA will not be serving Chicago from Manchester for the foreseeable future. Philadelphia will continue for Summer 2019 as a daily service with an A330-200.

Not sure what to read into this. We all know how the ORD was removed and it started with 787 'upgrade'.....

It's 21 less seats in total, but 8 extra business.

I wonder if the A330s are on their way out to standardise on B787s fleet wise and as they don`t operate anywhere near
as many TA flights B777/787 will fit the bill

Once they have all been delivered American will have almost 90 787's - it was only a matter of time before more TATL flights saw them.

I wouldn't read too much into it. Chicago is a relatively small TATL hub for American (1 all year round route, 6 seasonal) whereas Philadelphia is somewhat larger (8 all year round, 10 seasonal).

Philadelphia – Manchester eff 03MAY19 767-300ER replaces A330-200 (Previously scheduled in October 2019 only)

I`m not suprised as I am sure I read that AA are pulling A330 of TA flights and using them Trans Continental
so that as B787 are delivered they will take on TA flights with B763 slowly leaving the fleet, bit Ironic as United
have just gained 3 extra B763 from Hawaiian

According to ACL the service will operate with an B767-300 between 4th May and 5th June. No mention of the rest of the season changing.

Airlineroute has today reported:

American Airlines in recent schedule update filed aircraft changes for Philadelphia – Manchester route, for the month of April and May 2020. From 07APR20 to 06MAY20, the oneWorld member schedules Airbus A330-200 aircraft on this route, replacing 767-300ER.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
