Only once infrastructure is in place will we see the likes of LH, AF, PLAY etc we will always see expansion from the likes of ryanair but for the more interesting juicy new routes and airlines you gotta have a decent product to sell.
Play could operate any time as their arrival & departure times could fall during quiet periods. They are a low cost airline, not Emirates!

But where are PLAY and all the others! All the airports around us have new services but nothing at LBA.

6 A320's and 3 A321's all tied up. 1 more order for A321NEO and they maybe going for market share gain on volume routes out of KEF over niche routes. How this works is anyone guess.

As I've stated before I'd much prefer Icelander. With 25 A321NEO's potentially going to be order (MoM) that means growth of 8 aircraft. So where are they putting those additional aircraft? Displacement of Neo to Max means LBA could be in the bidding for those services.

Id much prefer icelandair but the conv is about PLAY and the lack of any other new airlines to LBA such as LH who have announced services from every other airport around us, yet the airport they probably would do best at gets nothing. Its just the same with all the turkish operators too.

The Future looks bright for LBA

We have Ryanair, Jet2 continuing to increase operations, now with TUi adding extra's and our new entrant Wizz Air.

As far as I understand Play is a matter of when, not if..

I heard recently that LBA has had discussions with a middle eastern carrier, but it isn't one of the big carriers that comes to mind. Especially as it involves Boeing 737-MAX.

Easyjet have shown interest in the not too distant past, as has previously said on here easyJet are LBA's main target for based operations once the terminal is sorted out. In the meantime there is nothing to stop them doing some routes to the likes of Amsterdam, Geneva, Naples, Nantes, Lisbon, Malaga, Palma, Faro & Milan to test the market beforehand as they do at Birmingham.

I really do hope LBA & local businesses can push British Airways to reinstate the suspended Heathrow route ASAP, as it's a link we desperately need again.

As the saying goes, 'If you build it, they will come,'

I've heard the same as you lbaspotter.

It would seem a long flight on a no frills airline

Whilst technically they are a low cost carrier, they do have a business class. Not sure how it stacks up compared to Emirates, Qatar, Turkish, etc, but they have just unveiled a new one with direct aisle access and a sliding door (very similar to JetBlue's):

C'mon lads (and lasses), we are beginning to get very negative about LBA's offering. I am afraid most of you must be fairly young (less than 50) and are used to at least 30 arr/dep per day. For someone who first "spotted" at LBA in 1968 when you had a dozen max, the services from LBA today are fantastic.

It has been well documented that the present Terminal is not fit for purpose, so why get new airlines in and then peeve off their customers because the facilities are poor. If in 2 years time, there are no new airlines then that will be the time to get "negative".

If you read other threads on the forum, you will realise that only BRS has made a better recovery since Covid, some airports are still 20% down.

I am looking to fly to KUL later this year, and yes, I will be flying from LBA!

I understand this carrier has the 737 MAX10 on order.
A max 10 would certainly require a fair amount of fuel to make pakistan but been mixed class onboard would lighten the load, so its a possibility.
Like seasider points out once we get the extension to the terminal we should hopefully see new carriers and routes, if we dont then something aint right!

Would the MAX10 be suitable for Runway operations in LBA? I'd think more the A321NEO which Fly Dubai are rumoured to be looking at. The max 10 has a landing gear which is designed to allow it to get the ground - due to the low height of landing gear it's self.

Again Boeing should have invested in a new aircraft completely.

The MAX10 has an increased capacity at the cost of a reduced range vs the MAX8, so my guess would be the latter.

The current longest route they fly in Europe is Dubai to Milan Bergamo, with a flight time on average of 6:30 operated by a MAX8 (for comparison, MAN from DXB is an average of 7:00).

With over 70 Boeing in service and 140 Boeing on order, it'd be quite a turnabout to switch to Airbus.

I think they fly to Salzburg which is presumably further than Milan

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
