When to BA go back to 3 a day on the LBA route? (Aside from the fact cabin crew are on strike for 2 days next week so we won't see any flights at all).

The reduction to two daily on Mon-Fri and Sunday is only until the end of next week. Three daily rotations resume from Sunday 15 January.

The strikes set for 10-11 January are by a portion of the mixed fleet cabin crew. MF do operate some domestic services (MAN and ABZ) but LBA has always been operated by the Euro fleet cabin crew since it started. There should be no direct impact on the LBA route. Now that is not to say that BA could plan to use the crew due to operate LBA for another route which is affected, but that was not the plan when strikes were called (and subsequently cancelled) a few weeks ago so hopefully that should not happen next week.

understand several aircraft are been leased in by British Airways to cover some Heathrow flights durning the Cabin crew strike. Don't know if any will appear at LBA yet but it could be a little interesting watch over the next 2 day as i see a couple of MAN flights have already been merged to be operated by Titan Airways Boeing 767.

No they won't be coming to LBA. I think today there is a Titan 767 going to MAN as you spotted and also a Veuling A320 going to ABZ. They will just be going on the domestic routes and short haul routes operated by mixed fleet cabin crew to cover the shorthfall.

EDIT: apparently BA leased two A321s and a 767 from Titan, so not just the 767 I mentioned above. Looks like the A321s went to WAW, BUD, MRS, PRG, and BIO, whilst the 767 went to MAN and DUS.

According to the CAA figures, there was a 25% increase in pax to LHR in November. In December the increase was only 5%, but there were a lot fewer flights.

Great little time lapse video from LHR to LBA has appeared. Thought I would share.

Inflight Video is a great YouTube channel, the full video is an entire experience walkthrough the airport including ATC!

On a tangent there's also a full KLM LBA to AMS experience including airport walkthrough, boarding, taxi, take off etc but as this is the BA thread I won't embed it.

An interesting video. I wonder if it was recorded with the knowledge of the airline and the two airports concerned? Some might question the inclusion of the security screening zone at LBA for example. The flight appears to have been on a Friday morning of last summer, judging by the arrival of the weekly arrival of an Air Europa B737-800 on the adjacent stand. Any further thoughts?

I agree it is a breech of security however it's already in the public domain so just highlighting this. Don't shoot the messenger.

There was no breach of security observed in the footage or by the person filming.

There are no current laws that prohibit the use of filming or photography in public areas. Had security seen the person filming they would have requested the footage be deleted but there are no laws in place that make it illegal. At no point were any of the security proceses or procedures filmed in any detail so there's no disclosure or threat to national security.

Airports generally don't like people to take photos or film in these areas primarily because having your personal belongings and your person searched goes against the "customer service" ethos that they try to portray.

That's a mute point Aviador It is on the property of a private company (to which the public have access) and therefore would really need permission. But hey ho no harm done.

Most places, including airports, allow photography and video without seeking specific permission as long as it is for non commercial use. There is certainly no general law which prohibits photos and videos taken and used on this basis, apart from in security areas. Speaking as a lawyer I am struggling to see what some folks are getting so concerned about here.

EDIT: just to add that listening to ATCin the UK (which the videos contain portions of) is a whole other kettle of fish, but let's not get in to that old chestnut ;)

A Captain newly rated on the British Airways A320 fleet is coming to Leeds tomorrow for the first time and he sounds a little nervous / apprehensive (As per his Twitter account). Some of his colleagues are already predicting a diversion to Manchester...

I hope he didn’t see the fun and games the crew on the BA 1346 had today :)

Whilst not doubting your post, the individual concerned must have been a first officer for some time or been recruited from another airline as a direct entry captain. A bit of advice is always useful and a sensible thing to do if you have not been to an airfield before. Lets hope the flight lands without incident and he enjoys the challenge. It does make you wonder what the general opinion of Ba crews have about our ski-slope airfield.

Another exaggeration. I do wonder why it is that on this forum there seems to be a desire to make LBA seem far worse than it really is. There are other airports in this country with lumps bumps and slopes on the runway, others with runways the same length and others which are on top of a hill (although not quite as high a hill). Do we really have to take every opportunity to make LBA seem like the worst airport in the country? And outside of this country there are far worse airports and much more testing places to land.

No Heather, I think you'll find that the posts here were actually referring to a post made on Twitter. In defence of this forum, Forums4airports is a public place where anybody can come to air their views positively and negatively. As I am sure you will know, I'm also happy for people to challenge the opinions of others as part of a healthy and friendly discussion.

jason1-11 I'm taking it that this is the tweet in question.

Crikey. I've just realised I've got my first Leeds Bradford tomorrow. #spotlandingcompetition

It's worth taking a look at the whole conversation which can be read here: https://twitter.com/mmsBA/status/831072115734491136

I hope he wont mind me saying this! But it's worth noting a known local member of this forum whom actually works for British Airways was one of several people to have replied to the said pilot's tweet...

But unfortunately it is the worst when you take into account all the issues! I have quite a few flight deck friends and I can tell you they really don't like LBA!

A couple now work out east on the big birds Qatar (787/77W) and Cathay (77W) both just laughed when I asked if they would land at LBA. I mean come on 738's and 75's cannot even do it in poor weather!

The only other poor one I can think of is BRS but TUI will operate the 788 this summer. The key being the perfect runway alignment of 09-27.

:wtf:

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
