Not sure if this has been posted but Summer 17 flights being loaded

TFS - 2pw

Well wityh the scraping of 2x routes this xmas, its good they are still here next summer!!

In summer 2016 they operated the following:

MAD = 3x pw
BCN = 3x pw
AGP = 4x pw
TFS = 2x pw
LPA = 1x pw

13x weekly flights... lets see how this compares to 2017. Will MAD/BCN come back as seasonal? any other routes?

Good to see at least two routes retained, to be honest, for me, anything more for S17 will be a nice bonus.

Although not bookable FCO has appeared in the drop down menu as available from Birmingham, it wasn't there a couple of days ago. What's odd is that there are no connections listed at all? Palma and Bilbao both recently appeared as connections via MAD but FCO has nothing?

It may be one of these anomalies that appear in the system, where a flight is given as a 'possible option' but then no flights actually bookable.

If you try to search BHX-FCO in Oct, it tells you the route begins 2nd November. If you try 2nd November, it says no flights bookable. 2nd November is a TFS day so may have been a connection flight as TFS-FCO starts 2nd November.

It happens with some of the long haul connections from Manchester. For a while when you searched MAN-BOS, it would say 'flights begin 20th May', but when you searched 20th May, says no flights available. It just so happened OSL-BOS started on that date and was obviously meant to be a connection but never happened.

Obviously, MAN-BOS hasn't happened, so, it was obviously a glitch. You can see the similarities to the BOS scenario.

Norwegian to announce the first B737max routes in December for a June/July 2017 start. Will operate to Newark as JFK doesn't have the slots.

Could this be the carrier that BHX hoped to fill the NYC gap shortly?

We can only hope but alas only time will tell.

NAX appear to have thrown their toys out the pram with BHX with the announcement of Jet2in a shor-haul capacity but hopefully they still see the value of BHX in a long-term capacity. That said, the landscape changes on a day to day bases in aviation, and this seems to be even more so the case with NAX

Will be interesting to see where they base their new MAX's as they could do long-haul and short-haul with them. Really hoping NAX see a potential market for cheap long-haul out of the smaller regional airports like BHX, BRS, LBA, NCL and CWL.

Looks like a rehash of an old article, there's no new quotes from anyone at Norwegian.

The newest quote was from Thomas Rahmdahl (UK manager for Norwegian) about the fact MAX routes will be announced in November/December for a 2017 start, using the words 'we can promised there will be MAX Tatl routes next year'.

But to be honest, it's since Thomas Rahmdahl has taken a more prominent role in the UK that the BHX rumours seem to have gone cold.
I don't know if or what role he may have played in that, but, it Seems a bit of a co-incidence?

Exactly why do those trumpeted announcements of Routes silently become a dream of a sick enthusiast like myself?

BANGLADESH BIMAN offered a wonderful gesture in bringing DC-10 to us, then announced a service that took in NYC...what happened to that service?

Management failures, Financial hurdles or plain and 'simple' politics? Politics relevant to Pakistan, Turkmenistan or even gentle India?

I saw an article about the interview he did and it mentioned transatlantic routes from airports with low costs which I would've thought BHX would fit the mould. Maybe because United already fly EWR and BHX has a lot of carriers on sun routes that has made them think twice about basing aircraft there? Or they could be thinking of airports smaller than BHX that don't have transatlantic routes like CWL, LBA, NCL, LPL, ABZ and BRS.

I believe part of the issue was not only management deciding not to have a New York route, but I believe the DOT would not allow Biman to alter its stop over point from MAN and could only offer EWR when Biman wanted JFK.

Kevin Steele was the MD and it was more or less signed and sealed then he left the airline and the rest is history

Oh I agree, plenty of UK-Bangladesh demand, wasn't disputing that at all.

Like I say, when Kevin was CEO, he tried to get DAC-BHX-JFK but US DOT wouldn't allow a route change from DAC-MAN-EWR (still only have that option), so, he had difficulties.

As you say, he then left for 'health reasons' but has since come back on the scene with that firnas start up

Quite possibly, I very much doubt there would be room for three airlines on the route.

This may well work out quite nicely with United catering for the business and connection traffic and Norwegian picking up more of the lower yielding O&D tourist customers. The MAX may just be the perfect fit.

The interesting bit in the article was when he said that constraints at LGW could mean that they look to the rest of the UK for new routes. He mentioned more to the Caribbean for W17 and possibly even Asia. TOM are due to base a second Dreamliner at BHX for W17, I wonder if that 787 will be blue or white with a red nose?

Whilst I am hopeful, things with these seem to change all the time but being specifically mentioned is definitely a positive 👍
