One of the better liveries and the newer one is a big improvement on the older one.

One of the few liveries that actually improved with a revamp.

Below is a brief summary of the Wizz routes at BHX, DSA and LPL (the three non London airports that have seen recent growth) and the competition at each.

Bucharest is one that I wanted to see increased but with the news that Blue Air are returning maybe 3x weekly A321 is adequate? Another Romanian city would be most welcome, especially if Blue Air don't try Bacau again. There may be room for more to Poland and it's a shame that Poznan had to go, hopefully they'll find a way to bring it back. Ryanair have sat at 2x weekly for years on Gdansk and Katowice, room for another? Varna would be a great addition, it's been away for a long time apart from one season with TCX. Kosice is one that I've never really thought about but despite healthy load factors out of BRS it didn't survive. The sun routes have competition from TUi, Jet2 and Ryanair but maybe Wizz could slot in with 2/3x weekly services, although that would likely require a based aircraft? Larnaca really needs the lost Blue Air capacity replaced.

Of course it seems as if their focus will now shift to LGW if they can get the slots but the UK manager did say that LTN was 'maxed out in terms of capacity' so maybe BHX can capitalise on that?

This is all dependant on the world getting back to some kind of normality sooner rather than later.

I think the reason Bristol-Kosice was cut was due to Wizzair closing the Kosice base? I’m sure @TheLocalYokel can confirm?

If it’s coming in threes maybe Tallinn to complete the Baltic trio!
All the routes were pulled from Kosice except Luton which remains. I think that DSA is due to commence Kosice in October. Kosice was the weakest BRS route in terms of passenger numbers but by no means a disaster - into the 90s% load factors in peak summer.

Good to see BHX getting some love even in these uncertain times, just hope Wizz know what they are doing because historically BHX has always suffered when airlines start aggressively expanding. That said, following the loss of CSA it’s a shame Wizz don’t have a base at Prague.

Wizz are a lot more stable airline than some of those who have tried to expand quickly and failured. It seems pretty common practice even with Gatwick it's one aircraft to start I'm not saying a second or third wouldn't be far behind at the right base however I think they are getting things pretty spot on how they are going about their business at the end of the day they've plenty of aircraft on order so new routes and bases will keep coming they look on course to really join easyJet and Ryanair at the centre of a loco battle for supremacy.

Also Wizz reportedly have one of the lowest Cost per Available Seat Kilometres which will help to keep the yields higher.

historically BHX has always suffered when airlines start aggressively expanding.

Just need to avoid those silly times of 4 airlines to Madrid and 7 airlines on some of the sun routes.

TUi and Jet2 have the holiday market now and will hopefully grow as demand dictates.

What we are in desperate need of is some of the key destinations that are missing or under served to start being filled. It would be nice if, in the medium term, both Wizz and easyjet could do that in a steady and sustainable way.

Morning,

Ray, when you hinted at there's more to come from Wizz, were you talking about Vilnius or Vilnius and more?

Cheers

Karl

According to Wiki there are 62x A320neo, 175 A321neo and 20x A321XLR to be delivered. Even taking possible retirements into account that is a lot of aircraft to keep busy.

Simon Calder reported that Wizz had winter slots at LGW for four based aircraft but ended up with just the one as that's all they could get guaranteed year rounds slots for. No doubt that will increase in due course. Going by the press release DSA will also be expecting more aircraft in the coming months.

I hope that BHX is in line for something as the potential seems to be there. Milan, Larnaca, Poznan and Athens could be possible contenders along with a couple of sun routes to pad the schedule out.

Lets hope that the post below comes to fruition :)

I am hearing that in the near future Bacău, Larnaca & Milan are on the cards from Birmingham as destinations are expanded from these new bases.

Blue Airs exit may also push Wizz Air to increase it's OTP route frequency.

Birmingham has also been listed as a potential destination for Wizz Abu Dhabi when equipment allows.

I think that Birmingham could see a Wizz based aircraft soon as Wizz have highlighted that it intends to grow it's western Europe presence and the whole idea of using Gemma is to promote wizz as an airline for your holiday routes not only VFR traffic or city breaks. Could this also be why a successful route like Poznan has been taken off sale? Surely it would be better operationally on a BHX based aircraft.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
