Evening all,

Has Tui given up on BHX for the most part at the moment. Flights from LGW and the other one up north, but none or very few from BHX?

Cheers

Karl

So I’m due to head out to ACE with Tui on 2nd Aug. What are the chances?

Chances of what?

If you're double vaccinated there's no difference between Amber and Green. Only problem is if it goes red. Chances of that? I would say check the infection rates for the Canary Islands, but given the government has just announced travellers from France will still have to quarantine despite the vast majority of cases of the Beta (South African) Variant being found on the island of Reunion not mainland France, I'd say all bets are off.

If you're not double vaccinated and are hoping it goes Green before then, the next review isn't until about 4th/5th August, so it wouldn't happen before you went.

I also take what TUI say with a huge pinch of salt. There's so much competition now even at BHX.

They've recently announced leaving EDI after Summer 2021 schedule with "no plans to return". Then there's the strange decision to move Florida flights from Sanford to Melbourne from 2022. It's a personal opinion would rather use the likes of Virgin for long-haul so prepared to use other UK airports.

The move for the Orlando airport was connected to the cruise line part of the business.

They say they’re closing EDI from S22 but the reality is they haven’t operated a flight from EDI since December 2020 and I’m really not convinced they’ll operate a single flight between now and S22 either.

I find it bizarre as (COVID aside) there is no shortage of demand from EDI. I think it’s the result of them not being willing to commit to a base and try and compete with the other airlines and offer more capacity or variety of routes. The slim selection they did offer wasn’t competitive with the likes of Jet2, EasyJet, Ryanair so it’s not hard to see why closing the base was probably the ‘easiest’ option. Very sad for all the crew/staff involved but I know they were (prior to COVID) planning to expand at GLA so hopefully they can be transferred there.

After today's travel announcement that Turkey & Egypt will move of the red list from next week, TUI are now showing flights from October:-

Dalaman : 2 flights Tues & Sat
Antalya : 2 flights Wed & Sun
Hurghada : 3 flights Mon, Thu, Fri
Marsa Alama : 1 flight Mon
Sharm El Sheikh : 2 flights Wed & Sun

keep your fingers crossed!!

TUI have been using their 787s on short-haul routes, as well as the usual long-haul ones, for a number of years. Whether the size and timetabling of the 787 fleet will allow more short-haul routes to be operated by Dreamliners whilst maintaining the long-haul network is something to keep an eye on.

TUI did plan to us a dreamliner on quite a few short haul routes this summer to Burgas, Sal, Larnaca, Paphos, Arrecife, Malaga, Tenerife, Antalya, Dalaman, and of course they have been operating the Wednesday Rhodes flight during most of this summer, so no real surprise they have planned to use them next summer too, with the 757s being retired in the next few weeks, they obviously feel the 189 seater 737's are too small for some routes!

But we are talking about TUI, so a lot will change between now and May 22!

I've flown on many a Tui 787 on short haul, but never seen one scheduled on FUE from BHX. That's what astonished me a little. Knowing Tui, I fully expect to be on a 737 both ways. Hope to be pleasantly surprised 😎

Not a Tui flight in sight departing BHX this morning. Looks like they've consolidated a lot of flights to LGW etc. Jet2 still going strong!!

Heads Up!

For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?

I don't believe I am quite covering enough roles at work. Its now 4 on a bad day, 5 on a good day and there is scope for a 6th and 7th role. Still on minimum pay but had the biggest payrise in the company,
