Out of interest, would Boeing cover the cost of this?

Boeing will face massive compensation claims from airlines affected so ultimately they will pick up the bill for sure. No doubt Boeing will have some major insurance in place for this type of event as part of their business cover but bound to hit the company earnings to some degree. I wouldn't like to guess the figure but it will grow the longer the planes are grounded and now the impact of slower deliveries when the issue is fixed ( At the weekend they announced a reduction in production levels as a result)

Ray, the aircraft you might be on is CS-TKU which is operating for Tui Germany but currently en route BCN-MAN.

According to Airline Fleets CS-TKU has 215 seats whereas the seat maps on our flight shows 220 seats, although I wouldn't rule out a late change.

From what I have heard there could be two subbed aircraft at BHX with a few more at other bases, details should become available in the coming weeks.

Don't think it was high demand, should have been a 738, but im guessing due to the 737 max groundings, they are short of aircraft so used a 788 instead.

That makes sense. I guess this was the reason for flying the dreamliner on another short route a while ago.

This will be due to the grounded Max's, even though they have cancelled the retirement of some aircraft etc they are having to lease other aircraft, which will i assume be at Boeings expense and not their own

Yes TUI should have had 9 737 Max's in service by May, so they are having to find 9 aircraft from somewhere until the Max's are back! Believe they are possibly keeping 2 more 757s on lease for a bit longer, 3 Olympus A321s, 2 at BHX, 1 at MAN, so still leaves them 4 aircraft short. Looks like the Olympus A321 are being leased until July, so when the Max's are back, will we see 2 at BHX replacing the A321s?

In true BHX style Goa has now disappeared although I suppose we should be thankful that it lasted two seasons rather than the usual one.

Agadir has also disappeared beyond April 2020 so unless it's going winter only it will be yet another route lost.
