Football legend Diego Maradona has passed away at the age of 60.

An incredible footballer who entertained so many people with his special skills, unfortunately remembered by some for the Hand of God incident. So sad that he should leave us at such a relatively young age.

News reports say he died of a heart attack. He had a number of medical and social issues over many years so might not have been in the best of health anyway.

Personally I will never be able to forgive him for the hand of God moment, which is a shame considering his undoubted talents as a footballer

Arguably the greatest player of a generation, such incredible skill in a period where players had much less protection from the referee and pitch's were as rough as the local park.

I wonder what price he would fetch in today's market.

Would a club touch him? His record of off field activities might prove too much for the PC brigade in the media, get a brilliant player in and then systematically take him down. All I have heard and seen since the announcement of his demise is the ,'hand of God' incident, a footballing moment that the referee let go and England will never get over despite being not good enough on the day. Remember George Best, a brilliant player with off field demons that ultimately destroyed him!

Another sad passing, Peter Alliss the wonderful golf commentator. I could only watch golf if he was talking me through the game. All the good ones are gone, CMJ in cricket was another commentator who knew what he was talking about unlike many in football!

I'm not a great golf fan but over the years I have watched it on the telly from time to time and Peter Alliss was certainly knowledgeable and amusing. A contemporary of his and a broadcaster and tv commentator and cricket expert (as befits a former Australian captain) of similar great longevity was Richie Benaud, also sadly no longer with us. I regard Richie Benaud as one of the greatest ever media sports communicators, certainly of the spoken word.

Slightly away from the late Mr Alliss - I didn't watch him enough to remember any stories about him - but Richie Benaud was commentating one day and one of the younger recently-retired Australian test cricketers was alongside him. I forget his name and probably a good thing too because his broadcasting ability was not a patch on Mr Benaud's, not that many other people's is.

Anyway, the other man said something something about, "It snuck up on him" when describing an incident on the pitch. He must have sensed Richie's displeasure because he continued, "Is it snuck or sneaked, Richie"? The reply from a man punctilious in his use of the English language, perhaps surprising to some as Richie was Australian, was vintage Richie Benaud, "There are many words in the English language that end in u c k but snuck is not one of them." I would have been surprised had Richie endorsed the American 'snuck'.

I think so many of us grew up and lived our lives for so long with the likes of Peter Alliss and Richie Benaud as regular guests in our living room when we were watching sport on the box that we feel almost a personal loss when they die.

Condolences to Peter Alliss's loved ones. RIP.

Totally agree and CMJ ( Chistopher Martin Jenkins ) was like when the headmaster entered the room, one Sat up straight and ceased chewing the Cud and gave full attention to proceedings. Alliss had authority and this is what I miss with the current crop of sports reporter.

Peter Alliss was the Voice of golf through the years on the BBC. Sadly not heard so often as Sky Sports outbid the BBC in recent years. A wealth of knowledge, all explained clearly wether a golf fan or not. RIP.

Dame Barbara Windsor: Carry On and EastEnders actress dies aged 83

She was best known for her role as Peggy Mitchell in EastEnders and parts in the Carry On films.
