Like I say, I normally love the CAPA articles, but there seem to be a few lately that seem to be almost a rush job or not researched well. Their last MAN ones were full of inaccuracies too.
Wizz Air - I'm convinced that there is more to come later this year.
Vueling - No idea, every rumour I've heard has ended up with the opposite happening. In the future I can see them covering more of the sunshine routes and hopefully a city destination or two.
Ryanair - Finally realised that they have a base at Birmingham. What's annoying me is that they're adding new routes and frequencies purely aimed at the competition rather than giving us something new. That's business I guess.
Norwegian - Rumours are that there is stuff happening behind the scenes so we'll wait and see. Mr Pearson's words were encouraging though.
Not to forget Monarch who are supposedly planning more.
We also have to wait and see who this potential new based airline will be![]()

12:20 is the time to be at BHX tomorrow when the EK A380 and Qatar 787 should arrive almost simultaneously. I doubt many of us thought that would have been a reality this time last year.
Infact looking at all the arrivals for tomorrow the difference in variety - both airlines and aircraft - is quite impressive from 18 months ago.
I think the general consensus is that there is more to come. A route in some shape or form to China is looking more certain, hopefully Wizz and Vueling aren't finished, Ryanair are slowly starting to show an interest again and given that MAN looks set to become a battleground between VS and TCX for North America I wonder if BHX’s ambitions of gaining Norwegian long haul have improved?
Jet2 have a press release for their winter 16/17 program and still no mention of BHX. If they were planning a BHX base for autumn then surely they would have announced it along with the winter program??

For those good at scrutinizing schedules though and know aircraft, it could indicate some clues if there are any truth behind the rumours....
Hell will freeze over before London Airways abandons its hub and spoke operation. For some reason, their business model couldn't make money in the regions, while plenty of others have found they can. Look at Emirates - 3x777's flying out of BHX still wasn't enough to cope with demand, so they had to upgrade the lunchtime flight to a bigger aircraft.
A little part of me would love to see BA become a truly national 'British' airline again, but it would take a seismic shift in strategy for them to do this.
I flew from BHX to New York last year - it was a joy to cab it up to my local airport and hit the big apple, and then on returning back, jetlagged, roll back into a cab and arrive home.
My previous journey was from Heathrow with BA. An earlier start, plus, even with valet parking, by comparison it seemed a total faff, and on the first day in Manhattan I was too knackered to enjoy it properly. Local airports flying point to point are the future!
