People talking about Washington that would be great but if you look Baltimore/Washington would be a good fit close to Washington and Philly and should be cheaper fees that both the other 2 airports .

I find it really frustrating that on the day United Airlines pull out of BHX, BBC Midlands Today give it a major segment. The day Primera is announced, it gets a 14 second passing comment!!!

I wouldn't get to upset about Midlands Today. It's a silly amarteur often embarresing little programme. If you tuned in tonight for the latest local news you would have been informed that there was flooding 10 years ago.Cutting edge.

Yeah Kevin found the photo the other week and cut it a bit i'll take it off if you want .
No, you're alright mate (I usually charge £10/month, but I'll let you off ;)).
Nice to know someone appreciates my photos.

Without wanting to come across as a grumpy old man, it's best to ask permission first. From my point of view, I would have said 'yes' to using my photo as an avatar within the F4A forums.

Kevin

Just read quite a large article in The Times business section about Primera's new US flights from Stansted.
Not a mention of BHX! Not a good start.Looks like there is a lot of work to be done.

10 month slog on getting the name out there starts now. Perhaps whoever operates the BHX twitter feed better tweet them to find out why no mention of these flight. In terms of another potential route I just wonder if they might go for Detroit? That would appear to be a better fit for BHX based on the automotive industry than MAN getting that kind of link.

What do you mean? there was a big press release yesterday on the BHX Twitter feed!!!!

The problem in this case is that Greater Detroit offers very little tourism appeal. It is an industrial city with well-documented urban issues. Often the poster-child for the pain of industrial decline. Realistically, how many auto-industry executives need to fly between Birmingham and Detroit each day? Very few, I'd wager, and those who do likely work for companies which have a corporate travel deal with one of the majors ex-LHR. They would probably want business class service too.

Meanwhile, the only reason that MAN has been namechecked alongside Detroit in the past is because DTW is a Delta hub offering a good range of onward connection-opportunities. Unless Primera were to offer a codeshare with Delta, Detroit would be a real tough-sell for them.

It could well be sponsored by MAG. WalesOnline will do articles sometimes promoted by Cardiff Airport and Bristol Airport as well.

I do find it irksome that when David_itl makes are suggestion as regards Primera Air maybe choosing Detroit as an option, we have to read posts suggesting why MAN might be a better option....

This is a BHX arena and i feel posters should be allowed to voice their preferences without them being put down by someone who clearly supports another airport. We do know how to suck eggs down in the Midlands...

We have had this MAN creep (as in creeping, not in person!) before. I just hope we, on BHX, can discuss our own parochial matters without interference.

Local news is all well and good. National news is what needs to be pinpointed. If that's too far fetched then go outside the West Midlands area. aim at Southwest England, Northwest London, north Midlands. Get the papers there to report it... with the motorway and rail network available, cast the net wide is search of potential passengers. Look how MAN and Hainan did a whole load of promotional events all over the country.. get the name into neighbouring areas. And don't just do it once. Get promoting virtually every month with a ramp up in activity in the last couple of months - Thomas Cook love to do flash sales on their network

You need to read what I wrote again with a cool head. I did not suggest that MAN-DTW was a good option at all. I pointed out that the city has negligible tourism appeal (from BHX and MAN alike). The only way a service between MAN/BHX and DTW would have a prayer would be if it could leverage access to Delta's hub there. So people could travel on somewhere else. For an airline relying on leisure travel based on an economy product, DTW holds little attraction. That applies to Thomas Cook just as much as to Primera Air.

I have contributed a number of postings to help readers with no experience within the industry understand elements of this topic. None of them cheerlead on a MAN v BHX basis. I have gone out of my way to provide balance. If you can't cope with grown-up discussion, maybe this isn't the forum for you.

I look forward to reading your apology.

Just to give my opinion on the rumoured two routes; I think Baltimore (marketed as Washington) and Toronto.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
