I doubt they'd serve both. Baltimore has very little demand on it's own but it could be marketed as an alternative for Philadelphia and Washington. Very few airlines serve PHL/BWI/IAD together, BA is one of them, from one of the largest air markets in the world. Condor, for example, serves Baltimore and also uses it as an alternative to Washington.

Also, I was under the illusion that one of the two destinations would most likely be Toronto? If so, then there could only be one more US destination (at least in the short term)

Nice article with some interesting stuff.

The CEO of Primera said in an interview that they would start operating six A321neo's in 2018, if we assume that the 3x weekly gap in each bases schedule are to be filled with Toronto then that leaves very little room for anything else for the summer.

Unless something has changed it could well be a winter start, which then brings the A321LR in to play. With that in mind I'd have thought Miami or Fort Lauderdale (assuming that the LR can do it) would be a better fit than Washington, especially if they can get cruise company on board. You could also switch the flights to Orlando for the summer months.

I also wouldn't rule out San Francisco, with a tech stop in somewhere such as Halifax it could be doable.

I don't think anyone here has suggested Primera would serve PHL/BWI/IAD separately. we are pretty certain that Toronto is to be announced with only one other north America route in addition to that!

Sorry, I thought your original post implied you were suggesting Baltimore and Washington would be served as you said 'they could serve both'. Or you may have been suggesting that either airport would effectively serve both cities, which is my line of thinking.

Hi there ray and all, regarding Primera Air, I know that since this low cost carrier from Scandinavian carrier has announced its business proposal plan to Birmingham Airport and the business media in general, apart from New York and Boston that it has already announced for starters, I hope that any other transatlantic routes that it announces later in September this year can only be very good business growth for Birmingham

Indeed I was suggesting that both Baltimore and Washington could be served if Primera picked BWI instead of IAD which is the WRONG side of Washington to serve Baltimore

Hi there ray and all, as my previous post to this, regarding Primera Air travel announcement the other week only there low cost flights from Birmingham to New York and Boston intially. All we can hope is that the level of advertising that Jet2 have used through all forms of media has really paid off massively, so lets hope that Primera Air uses the same tools and source used by Jet2, then hopefully the benefits will then start to pour in over the next 1,2,3 year's time, then once they have got themselves established, maybe others will follow. Until we see how successful New York and Boston become, even though further routes will be announced later this year on top of what they have already decided to do, then the success of New York, Boston and other routes announced will do, will depend on Primera Air travels expansion at birmingham, but also the media in general has to play there part in any success story, for a new project to succeed, so the more the media help with Primera at Birmingham, then the success that Primera will become at Birmingham, lets just wait and see....AndyC....

Indeed. Baltimore could also serve some parts of Philadelphia/Pennsylvania. If the price was right I would certainly use a Primera BHX-BWI service for my frequent trips to Philadelphia.

...well then we will need to wait with pated breathe to see what the future routes to be announced are!

Interesting interview.

More bases to be announced in the coming year, they may or may not be in the UK. The new LR aircraft could be either for a new base or for strengthening the recently announced bases. A short and medium haul network is also being considered.

It's going to be very interesting to see what happens.

I also forgot to add the New York is now bookable through Skyscanner, quite a bit cheaper than the competition too.

Boston isn't there yet but should be soon.

Great news about Skyscanner Ray (y)

So possibly Primera could operate some short haul routes too from BHX if successful.

And 35 aircraft in 5 years time is nothing to be sniffed at. These guys are serious.

I listened to that podcast link and the lady interviewed suggested potentially short or medium haul routes and new bases. They are part of a travel group so I'm wondering if they could look at say the Canary islands in the future?

Id be more inclined to say untapped markets from BHX would be better for them.
BHX-Athens should be developed
BHX-Scandinavia should be developed
BHX-Italy could do with more

Primera air could find themselves in a similar situation to Norweigan and Vueling. We Brits are funny buggers, for the canary islands we want Monarch/Jet2/Easyjet/TUI/TCX and maybe Ryanair.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
