Yes please, i feel hard done by down here.
Even the heavy stuff that was forecast for tomorrow friday appears to fizzle out by the time it reaches the Birmingham area.
I love snow. Everywhere gets a good deep clean with all that freezing water.

You must be the only one that does...Just be grateful you`re out of it..nothing nice about snow....ever

Lots of comments in the media about the atrocious weather of the past few days with some suggesting it's the worst in living memory.

They obviously haven't heard of this.

I remember the Arctic winter 62/63 vividly. I was caught up in it and had to walk many miles to and from work at times because of the volume of snow and the ice. Being a young lad then it was no hardship.

The first major snow of that winter (we'd had significant falls on Boxing Day) was during the night of 29/30 December, Saturday night into Sunday morning. Like this week the snow was accompanied by gale-force winds and certainly in the West Country it was more severe than the weather of recent days. There were 20-foot snow drifts.

The snow and severe cold went on for two months. So much football was lost to the weather that there was talk of the league season not being finished, with promotion and relegation issues left undecided. In the event the season was extended by a month into June.

It is the worst snow wise that i've seen since i was a child. Can't get the car out of the street so can't get to work, so it's looking like i'll have the weekend off!
My girlfriend is laughing at the UK back in the US because this has shut the country down but they seem to be able to deal with much more of the white stuff than us.

Your girlfriend is absolutely right. We can't cope with snow.

Yeah unfortunately we aren't just used it. For instance lorries aren't required by law to carry snow chains which could've helped many trucks out during this week.

Cold weather alert

Current alert level: Level 3 - Cold Weather Action

Issued at: 08:27 on Thu 15 Mar 2018

There is a 90% probability of severe cold weather and locally heavy snow between 2100 on Friday 16 Mar and 0900 on Tuesday 20 Mar in parts of England. This weather could increase the health risks to vulnerable patients and could disrupt the delivery of services. Please refer to the national Cold Weather Plan and your Trust's emergency plan for appropriate preventive action.

A cold easterly airflow is expected to return during the weekend, likely lasting until Monday. At present it looks unlikely to be as severe as the conditions experienced at the start of the month, but unusually low temperatures and some snowfall are still expected. After a relatively mild period this week, trigger criteria for low temperatures are likely to be met quickly across England from Saturday onwards, with the cold air first arriving during Friday night across the northeast. Widespread frost, low daytime temperatures and a significant wind chill are likely to develop. Snowfall looks likely across high ground Friday into Saturday, with snow showers following behind and affecting low-lying areas, especially in the east. A chance of more persistent snow across southern and perhaps parts of the Midlands Saturday night into Sunday, with some uncertainty at this stage. The highest confidence is in respect to the predicted low temperatures. Keep in touch with the Met Office weather warnings regarding snowfall over the coming days.

An update will be issued when the alert level changes in any region. Alerts are issued once a day by 0900 if required and are not subject to amendment in between standard issue times. Note that the details of the forecast weather are valid at the time of issue but may change over the period that an alert remains in force. The weather radar is looking nasty for this evening with heavy snow showers crossing much of the UK with the heaviest falls currently between Norwich and Southend where moderate snow has been falling for the last couple of hours.

Bitterly cold day in the West Country today with snow flurries all day but very little if any settled (or pitched as we say around here). Overnight might be a different proposition with substantial snowfalls predicted.

Looks like winter isn't done with us yet. The Met Office has issued a Yellow early warning for potential heavy snow on Monday. Links to effected regions bellow.

An unusual depression is forming in the Mediterranean and is expected to reach Cat 1 hurricane strength. The exact tract of the "medicane" is still unclear although forecasters are saying Malta, Corsica, Southern Italy and parts of Greece are likely to be affected. A Cat 1 hurricane is reached when the mean wind speed reaches 74mph. There is likely to be wind gusts significantly above 74mph during this event.

At the moment the current track of the Medicane (hurricane in the med) is looking like it is to pass close to western parts of Crete on Saturday before skimming to the south of Athens tracking towards Turkey on Saturday into Sunday when it is forecast to lose it's strength.

Hurricane Leslie is making its way towards Portugal this evening. They're expecting some damaging winds to affect the western side of the country.
