The weather - General Thread

I live very close to the River Weever which has burst its banks, people in my lane are flooded, I'm lucky i live on higher ground so I'm ok, all the fields below are like a lake. Northwich is about 5 miles from my home which is a complete mess from the flooding, a friend who runs an estate agent had been pumping out the water from his offices cellar from 8 hours when I spoke with him last night.

Flooding now appears to be an annual event which has been predicted because of climate change, the country needs to deal with this as an ongoing regular problem now.

Carl, thanks for mentioning the Weaver had overflowed. I was going to correct what I wrote yesterday which was based on some comments on NW News.
The Telegraph today specifically mentions the problems of the Weaver. I'm still led to believe the Mersey didn't actually overflow although it was expected to at one stage with some folk being evacuated; so Boris might have been better advised to visit Northwich rather than Didsbury.

I think he probably might have been The Weaver has flooded retirement flats quite recently built near the river, which always seemed I thought v close, the residents are being evacuated. I dont believe The Mersey flooded but was pretty close. Last year when communities flooded , I recall a place called Fishlake the government and the PM took sometime to show much interest from recollection. He obviously wants to show concern this time around all be it, Northwich maybe where he should have gone.

Yellow weather warning for this evening into tomorrow for much of the country. This time for snow and ice.

Here we go again ... it appears the snow/ice is making a weekly appearance for some parts of the UK in 2021.

Luckily we don't have a full programme of flights from LBA as I imagine we'd of just got over round 2 and be ramping up in readiness for round 3.

Great photos David. Every sympathy with the flooding situation though. We are quite lucky in Birmingham. We have a few traditional spots that flood in extreme rainfall scenarios, but not on a grand scale. The forecast from midweek is for more rain which won't help.
Today snow could be a problem down here.

Ta; I could really tell the difference between my old camera and my new one when I reviewed the photos.

One of my work colleagues lives opposite the main entrance to the park and said that one of the houses nearby had suffered with flooding in the garden so had the equipment needed to soak up the excess water. So I thought I'd have a little wander to check the park, I didn't dare go down the road to Turn Moss to see first hand what it was like around there, but I was talking to one of my neighbours in our block of flats and he said that it was the worst he's known in the 20 years he'd been living here. We do have a footpath that's normally muddy at the best of times that leads to that area which he said had actually started to slightly flood.

Literally squelched my way from my entrance to the park which isn't paved over to the main entrance path as my feet were sinking a couple of inches whenever I stopped to take a shot. Every year I use Photobox to create some calendars using photos taken he previous year but the one thing I've missed over the past few years is getting decent wintry conditions so there's an outlet there for some but will definitely think about getting a set of cards using them.

EDITED to say. Just noticed the 0950 weathers, heavy snow at Birmingham and starting snowing at Heathrow and Gatwick

Well done in getting that good set of cards and sticking with it in getting them. I feel sorry for all the people in getting floode as it takes a long time in sorting it and the clean up.The biggest problem i recon with flooding is that there has been building been done here there and every where,and places getting flooded that has never been flooded before.Keep them photos coming as they do you proud.

We have had around 150mm (6") of snow in just 3 hours or so in Brum. Emirates EK39 got in after a 90 minute hold.

Are but if you remember... after the impending ice age we were heading for during the 1980s, scientists then changed their mind and decided we were heading for global warming instead. Just when we were told the science was settled a few years ago, the term climate change was then adopted by the IPCC (an inter governmental panel who only pays scientists to search for evidence of man induced climate change) To further punish you for you day to day activities, climate activists now prefer to refer to climate change as climate emergency. This is the term we will stick with until they realise we cannot control and never have controlled the weather.

If you think you're cold, just remember that in Irkutsk in Russia the other day, they had a rather splendid temperature of -50F. Several brass monkeys were heard shrieking.

I notice David Int. indicated a temperature of -50F at Irkutsk not -50C, not a minor point but I have been observing extra low readings in the Northern States of the U.S.. and they commonly refer to the Fahrenheit scale.

Do I think there is any global warming going on? The answer to that is for sure. I do think there has been a sustained period of warming during my lifetime, infact there has been a sustained period of warming going much further back since the 1800s. It was much colder then. We have had global warming since the last ice age. We have had rapid warming and rapid cooling since before the jurassic periods. Despite the current trend the trend over millenia is still cooling.

The cause? There are far too many parameters for us to ever determine the cause.
