Leeds Bradford: Weather & Technical Diversions, Delays & Cancellations

Use this prefix for new threads for Leeds Bradford Airport
What I do not understand is that other airlines, such as BA and RYR, EK and LH are operating as normal into Luqa. Maybe it’s an insurance issue?
Or perhaps it is because Jet2 are predominantly selling package holidays and are responsible for all their customers wellbeing and safety whilst there. If there is a chance the island is going to be dumped with ash, making (for example) swimming pools unuseable, they are going to be inundated with compensation claims . Flight only passengers have no come back against the airline if their holiday is ruined by a volcanic eruption. So maybe Jet2 policy is not to take the risk. If they end up refunding passengers and potentially compensating hoteliers, they must have good reason for cancelling. Frankly, it's a 'damned if you do, damned if you don't' situation. Either way, there will be the usual 'never fly with Jet2 again' brigade infesting social media.

It’s a laudable idea but I strongly doubt it. After all EZY is operating normally to MLA and the majority of passengers will be from EZY Holidays. LS would also not operate as far as Rome then turn back. It is very likely due to SOPs, maybe dictated by insurance. Either that or Head Office held a meeting mid morning and just cancelled all holidays there.

Different companies have different views and policies. Easyjet often cancel but haven't to Malta. Jet2 rarely cancel, but have done now. It would be useful if Jet2 were to publicly explain.

Very odd as all other flights to Luqa due to land at around the same time landed normally. Also odd that it took off in the first place if conditions at Luqa were unsuitable for landing (which they appear not to have been). As others have suggested seems to be more to it.

I posted something on this in the main part of the forum following some further investigation 🔎

So Fridays outbound Malta LS239 service operated by Boeing 737-800, G-GDFZ ended up diverting into Rome, then eventually returned passengers back to Leeds. Meanwhile the delayed inbound service LS240 is currently now been operated by Airbus A321, G-HLYA, but it will be diverting straight into Manchester for operational reasons.

That's really poor. No doubt they are aware that all other airlines are operating normally and not only have they had to accept a delayed return flight but to add insult to injury they are now not even returning to Leeds. I would be fuming!

Heads Up!

For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?
LBA: B737-300 G-GDFK empty down to Paris at 16:15 to operate the return LS268 back to Leeds 20:00 ETA where it will then operate the delayed LS265 to Malaga 20:40ETD
LBA: Albastar B737-800 EC-MUB positioning in tommorow afternoon from Gatwick 15:45 to operate a charter to Lourdes/Tarbes on Friday afternoon 14:00 AP7721 STC
I don't believe I am quite covering enough roles at work. Its now 4 on a bad day, 5 on a good day and there is scope for a 6th and 7th role. Still on minimum pay but had the biggest payrise in the company,
