Not true.
It was due to the Airbus A310 being returned to the lessor and PIA not wanting to use Boeing 777.- unless someone knows different.

Thanks Seasider... even David Laws said in a YEP interview in 2017 that there was an issue landing 777's at LBA due to length of runway. So it comes back to PIA moving out because of 777 issues landing there and runway length.

Even though the runway length at lba is more or less the same as ncl and they get the 777, even the 300series, guess its down to them touchdown points set far down 🤔

It was the 777 300 that the problem lay with. LBA's runway and the taxiways are not suitable for the 300 series, which is what PIA were going to use as it turned out. The 777 200 is fine at LBA but at the time PIA didn't have any available. It makes you wonder why they ever said they were going to switch to the 777 in the first place. The cynic in me leads me to believe they never intended to fly the 300 into LBA and the only way they would operate the route with that aircraft type was if they managed to secure a spare 200 series from somewhere.

Not that simple though. The 200s were in use in a different part of the world. They are not going to switch round 200s and 300s and have them all over the place just for the sake of operating a 2 times weekly flight into LBA, when they are already operating 300s into Manchester. Nice thought but it wasn't going to happen.

There‘s not really much risk for LBA though. Worst case scenario, an operator launches a German route and then drops it a later date. That would leave them exactly where they are now, with no routes to Germany. On the flip side, they might get a few years of data showing passenger use and general demand for a route which is makes it a bit easier to market the route to other airlines. Think about LBA today, they’ve got much more evidence for demand for LBA - Islamabad than they have for LBA - Frankfurt

I would have thought there was a huge risk to LBA management.
Should they attract Easyjet to undertake a german route operation, they would have at least three issue,
1) If the financial position of Easyjet is right, possible bad debts when Easyjet folds. The City feels easyjet must scale back from Germany as a minimum to protect their financial long term position.
2) Irritation from Jet2, especially if Easyjets new holiday offer looks a direct competitor.
3)Any possible partnership with Lufthansa would cease.
Surely not the job of LBA management to take sides in a dispute which only two out of the three in the battle are going to survive, choosing the wrong one, will make their backers consider their investment.
Like TC this is a head in the sands situation by the companies involved, losing £6M a week is not commercial sense, we customers benefit at the moment, when airline options decrease we will all pay a heavy penalty in increased seat costs and reduced routes.

Coachload of "walking wounded" were ferried out to accident spot first.
All outside authority attendance police fire brigade and ambulance.
Police helicopter in the area has also been asked to attend along with numerous Jet2 vehicles
Simulated accident is a Dash 8 and is taking place on the fire ground

Been going on for over 30 minutes now and still more fire engines and ambulances arriving and appear to be being escorted to the accident scene but Jet2 vehicles which are constantly going backwards and forwards.

More details of "crashed aircraft", it is a Dash 8 with 54 people on borad.

When exercises are held at Manchester they also last for hours. Remember that the emergency services will be responding from a large area - this is not just a test of the local brigades etc.

I don't know if these drills are supposed to be NOTAM'ed but this one wasn't. Also curious that Jet2 are involved in escort duties when this exercise has nothing to do with the company.

The exercise was offically ended at 2249 so lasted almost 3 hours

Also Delta taxiiway has just reopened following brushing and cleaning to remove all the mud churned up by the vehicles

It's in the airfield operating procedures. Not the exact wording but In the event of an emergency all business partners are required to assist as and when necessary by the airport authority.

I’ve been involved in these type of exercises before, and as far as I remember each airport has to run one every 2 years.

FlightRadar24 is showing RYR departures from a number of UK airports, however this is incorrect. RYR, EZY, EXS, BEE and LOG have no scheduled departures today (However BEE are operating departures codeshared with AFR/KLM today, 1x from BHX and 2x from MAN).

TUI and WZZ have a busy day of departures today as well KLM, DLH, SAS and AFR operating a reduced schedule. There are also a number of long-haul flights being operated today hence why a number of the larger airports have a good number of scheduled departures.
