Surely then, someone from Jet2 should be taking this up with LBA management?

There's no doubting the severity of the snowfall or that it's now frozen solid and to be fair, LBA have a huge area to try and clear for public and staff alike, which is very difficult indeed when littered with cars. But at the very least some should be cleared and gritted and if necessary the airport should employ contractors to do it if they dont have the capacity themselves.

However, the airport isn't unique. Yesterday I visited the Costa Coffee near the airport (next to Hawthorn Farm Inn). The car park was thick with snow, generally inaccessible and the path into the place uncleared and covered in rutted frozen snow and ice. Downright dangerous. Then visited my regular pub in Bramhope and the car park was the same. In fact a van was stuck in the snow as we arrived. I'm expecting similar today when visiting the supermarket. Businesses generally just dont have the equipment or manpower to clear large areas and if they do, the mounds of snow that generates takes far longer to melt, prolonging the problems. Not sure what the answer is when there is a limited workforce who all have their 'day jobs' to do, other than employ contractors who are probably not available anyway due to being otherwise employed.

It's all rather typical of the UK in that these snow events, which happen most years, cause chaos here whilst other countries seem far better prepared.
During my time at LBA the airport had several large snow events.
The airport, like all airports has a Snowplan. Runways and manoevering areas followed by public access are always first. Staff areas are always last.

The freight area specifically was always the last area to be cleared when I was there too. I maybe wrong but I don't believe any airport staff park in that area now so it might be that they have overlooked the freight car park.

It might be worth asking the Jet2 base manager to have a word with the airport Terminal Officer to establish when the car park is going to be cleared? Maybe they're waiting for the snow to melt like the ground in front of the ILS transmitter?

It has been taken up I believe and brought to LBA attention!
You’re right WH, we just can’t cope like other countries. Yes we don’t get it as often as other countries but the country just grinds to a halt. Take schools as an example. They’d never close for a full week back in my day. But these days everyone is too concerned about safety and potential injuries and then facing being sued and paying out compensation!!
The former freight area is used purely for Jet2 staff parking. Staff employed by the airport and other companies have to park at the start of the long stay, a significant distance away.
This has also been "neglected/poorly serviced".

Coupled with the fact the car park bus was not running, the walking distance, on poor surfaces, is vast compared to the transition from the Jet2 car park to the gate house.

I believe there has been significant staffing issues overs the poor weather days where people have said they cant get in to work etc

Given those issues, It would be sensible for Jet2 to help find a solution to clear it given they demand their own car park. In my own opinion of course.

@LBAYORKIE The ILS is back in service.
I believe Jet2 pay for the right to that car park! It’s not just a demand!!

The idiotic NIMBY that runs they who shall not be named has put his 'environmental' hat on and demanded that our beloved West Yorkshire Mayor withdraws her stated support for the growth of LBA. Theres an article in the T&A on line today. Perhaps a coordinated joint attack as some other environmentalist has also been mouthing off in the Doncaster Free Press stating that DSA should not be reopened due to the climate emergency. I agree DSA should not reopen but for totally different reasons!

I see WYCA and the airport have treated him with the contempt he deserves. It is always the same three or four from that group who speak out or write to the papers claiming they have significant local support. Clearly they don't as nobody else ever bothers to write to the press!
At least we won’t have to see their drivel on X any more as they’ve taken their bat and ball home over Mr Musk and left X. Im sure they will be missed.🤣🤣

Think the weather on the mainland is better than the islands through winter which probably has something to do with it
You are correct, with alicante located in the south east of spain its very much in a sheltered position esp from the atlantic side, you also have the large chain of mountains to the back which extend right down to the sierra navada and of course its relatively close to africa. All these things give this region of one the mildest and calmest climates in the entire med in winter, often even a degree or two warmer than the malaga region in winter

easyJet Swiss new route to GVA now on LBA's website, with as you would expect not the airline operating being easyJet - this one is Sun Air of Scandinavia.

I personally cant see a company like Jet2 sitting back and letting something like this happen to them. It is not good enough and has been going on for way too long. Looks shoddy.

I contacted the airport CEO a few weeks ago about this by email. To date he hasn't replied. He is a busy guy, so we will see if he does reply or not.

Was lucky enough to spend the weekend in York. Lots of advertising for Newcastle Airport both at the railway station and on almost every bus. The Commercial Team up there must certainly see York as a key target based on the potential spend.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
