we are decades behind most other western countries now when it comes to transport infrastructure.
I agree. The country has been bled dry by greed and infrastructure has gone to the dogs. Everywhere else is getting decent motorway connections, metro systems and so on and here in the UK we're getting what .... bloody more cycle lanes. I'm not totally against them in principle as part of wider transport improvements including roads but not on thier own as we're seeing.
This is why I’m thinking maybe LBA should re lodge the planning application again and push it through and sit on it like they did with the current extension

You might be onto something there. Build some basic foundations so it can't be later withdrawn.

Totally agree - the biggest issue not just in terms of connectivity to the airport is the state of the transport network especially to the west of Leeds and to the east of Bradford. Most of the roads are gridlocked not just at peak times - it urgently needs sorting!
Now it would seem that after the news on Friday the money and power will be in the Mayors hands following the NWF partnership. Delays for instance on the rail link to the airport due to Leeds failing in its numerous bid to secure levelling up funding should hopefully now be a thing of the past….unless of course she decides to spend all the cash on buses and bike lanes!

well given the chancellor has now declared she is now publicly backing the reopening of DSA as one of her key pillars of growth perhaps it is time to submit an application. One may become soon anyway depending on the how the public enquiry goes….It would be interesting to see how the government would react particularly if it ended up at ministerial level for approval.

Looks like GB News has got on the bandwagon as Racheal Reeves accused of Hypocrisy.

Good - I’ve a copy of the letter which I posted on a number of media X platforms over the last few days….Interestingly even though his constituency is miles away Kevin Hollingrake has been a supporter of LBA even tabling commons questions on LBA

It’s all water off a duck’s back as far as these politicians are concerned. One day they tell you black is white the next that white is black all without batting an eyelid. Be great to put Reeves and the rest of the Government, including the Labour Leeds MP’s, on the spot by LBA putting in a new planning application.

Jenrick is the real culprit in the new terminal debacle. He had it in his power to allow the planning permission to go ahead but just sat on the case. His successor Gove was almost as bad because once again the issue was ducked by him by announcing a Public Inquiry. Yes Reeves is a hypocrite but she was in opposition at the time of the application with no power to decide the issue. Jenrick and Gove both had control of the levers of power but both just kicked the issue into the long grass for someone else to sort out. Little wonder the country is going to the dogs with the politicians we have. Not an ounce of flair, courage or conviction between them just lots of ideological hot air whilst the likes of LBA who want to generate growth, jobs and income just meet with the lack lustre brick wall of political cowardice and mediocrity.
At the time the local MP with the most influence in government was Stuart Andrew as a government whip and then a minister in Gove’s department yet he chose to sit on the fence.

I’m curious to know what’s stopping the airport resubmitting the plans given that they are clearly part of it 2030 plans. The plans are complete as previously submitted so the only costs really would be the resubmission.

In theory the current government (much as I do not rate them) is proving pro infrastructure and airport, it would surely be hard to reject given their stance on the London airports. Golden opportunity for the airport to get the plans approved and if needs be get shovels in the ground and sit on them as they did the current development.

Also would solve that pesky night time issue once and for all.

Fairly sure LBA will be wary of the Council using the opportunity presented by a planning application, to introduce Section 106 restrictions which will create problems, such as a passenger cap. Given the current development, such a move would be disastrous as any cap introduced could effectively make growth impossible. Having invested/committed to what they have, LBA need the status quo to be maintained and to reach that 7m per year target before worrying about a new terminal and opening the door for punitive restrictions to be introduced.

I thought there were still question marks around the 5m cap - has it definitely been confirmed with LCC that there isn’t…..it gets talk about so much I lost the thread where we got to on it!!

LBA are confident they are clear to grow to 7m pax per year without the need to submit a planning application, but they told me that there was a conversation to be had with the Council planning department, which to me, sounds slightly concerning.

However, a few years ago a Leeds Planning Officer was guest speaker at a Consultative Meeting. He was asked specifically if approval needed to be obtained to go beyond 5m and he said not. He confirmed there is no passenger cap in force at LBA, and the 5m limit, (if it existed) would be exactly that.

My understanding has always been that the planning approval required LBA to submit a planning application once they reach 5m pax, for any works that require planning approval, and which are needed to achieve 7m. As it turns out, no such works are needed. Phase 2 of the current scheme enables 7m pax per year, but as it is an internal refit with no impact on the outside , planning consent isn't needed.

Perhaps it's another example of a badly worded planning approval that can be interpreted as you wish. Seems a common theme with Leeds Council in the 80s/90s.

I take your point but by the time 7 million is reached this rare window of opportunity of a Government supporting airport growth will no doubt have closed. Catch 22 springs to mind.

Well, maybe they will. Maybe they will wait. The Council would know that the airport have no intention of building a new terminal before 2030 so not sure how they would deal with that. Putting in a planning application for a project still at least 5 years away isn't usual!

And here you have it. A labour government wiling to do what successive governments have failed to do and then there is this deranged moron trying to take the UK economy and society back to the Stone Age.

Carbon budget is just BS crap, made up, to allow idiots like this moron to usher in climate Marxism. Allowing "them" to worship at the climate change church.

I hope the cabinet stick two fingers up at him tbf. The UK economy need LHR/LGW and LTN to expand, they also need to look at other regional airports.

just had 10 days in the UAE
Flew from MAN to Doha with Qatar airways then on to Abu Dhabi with Qatar and back again via Doha on the 787-9 and upgraded to business well worth it and a amazing airline
Must say it’s probably a pipe dream but we need this airline at LBA I no they have the smaller 787-8 which I guess’s would be suited more to LBA

I didn't know he went to Benton Park, and what a hell hole that place is, even after it's been rebuilt!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
