I must say, Travel Agents used to offer the better deals for currency exchange I found, especially Thomas Cook in Yeadon, a lot better than the Post Office, or any other bank!

The Co-op next door is owned by the Thomas Cook group so they probably offer the same deals. I have booked both online and used the travel agent and to be honest as easy as it is now to book online I still prefer to book through a travel agent. Picking the tickets up used to be all part of the fun.

There is still a place for specialist travel agents in my opinion - I'm not in that business and never have been so am not biased in that sense.

My wife and I travel to Australia each year and get a deal from a specialist long haul travel agency that is not available online or direct from the airline.

When we travel with the likes of easyJet, Aer Lingus Regional or Flybe we do book online, and we book our internal flights in Oz online.

The last time we used one of the major tour operators (Thomson) we booked the inclusive holiday in one of their high street shops. We still like to book this type of holiday in person even though we will scan the Internet first to see what's available.

Down the years we've had minor problems, both before and during some holidays, and in those days were regular customers of the local Thomson shop who without exception sorted them out without us having to send emails or letters, or make phone calls to the tour operator.

I suppose that as the years progress high street travel agents will become a thing of the past as tour companies and holiday airlines inexorably try to reduce costs.

interesting article this morning in routes news lba in the process of secureing a link to doha with qatar, hows that for a good rumour.

I've just posted the link to the article with a short extract re the Doha story in the 'Rumours about New Destinations and Airlines' thread.

The route and airline team of Bridgepoint have been nothing short of fantastic for diversifying and going after airlines in difficult times. I cannot wait for two of the most well respected and well known airlines in England to begin their flights in December. I really hope your initial brilliant work can continue to get more new airlines in and to gain more routes. Florida, the Gulf should be being served right now and everyone in aviation knows it. We just need the flexibility of parking spots and aerodrome menoevrability to entice these airlines in. Keep the new routes / airlines coming. Well done Bridgepoint!!

It would seem another cull of wildlife took place this morning around Yeadon Dam and the end of runway 14. The sound of shotguns began at around 0630 and went on for around 1 hour I was not aware of any actions being taken but I will not make comment until the facts are known.

Well I know ATC (Leeds Tower) reported to quite a few aircraft either on final approach or ready for departure to runway 32 yesterday afternoon that a large number of birds kept flying across the runway 14 threshold due to there been a risk off there been bird strike.

From what I gather, it is believed around 10,000 Starlings live on and around the Airport Industrial Estate. How's that for food for thought!

You can tell we are into the post-summer pre-winter slowdown now. No arrivals on the board between 12:00 and 15:25 on Saturday.

It's good to see that Gordon Dennison is alive and well and living in Cambridgeshire. He has recentley joined as poster on the dried fruit site.

That is good to know - nice guy was Gordon. I got to know him quite well during the days of the battle for 24 hour flying and he was always very helpful to the Support Group. LBA owes a lot to his determination to put LBA on the map despite the vitriol aimed at him by the likes of LACAN and various anti airport councillors and MP's.

A very nice person. I met him several times. He was passionate about the airport.
He battled for years with the local councils and anti airport campaigners.

There have been at least 3 early morning wildlife culls in the last few weeks starting around 0630 and lasting around 1 hour. The guns being fired seem to be inside the airport security fence on airport land this time and not at Yeadon Dam which created the last local uproar. I suspect that other locals like myself might be unhappy with the early morning noise and the fact we seem to have had no information on these actions again.

Well its either they cull the birds that are near the airport which are seen to be causing a danger, or airlines face the risk of bird strikes to there aircraft, which could then lead to big delays and even cancelations of flights.
The airlines will then have to raise there air fares due to higher aircraft maintenance costs for operating out of Leeds due to repairs and in other cases requiring an expensive engine changes, which will for sure get the customer complaining about the price rises!

Even worse is that an aircraft accident could occur after departure, which will not go down well if one was to fall out of the sky over a populated area like Leeds which would take so many innocent lives.

Which scenario would you rather happened a330boy? It really is a vicious circle in theory for the airport to explain the reasons to the public....

I think the main point a300boy is making is the lack of Public Relations discussions about this. The airport hasn't made any attempt to explain their actions, they have just gone ahead and culled the birds.

Unfortunately, Public Relations and Internal Communications are the first departments to be culled when companies are saving money, yet both are potentially vital to the business if it is to gain a good reputation and relationship with the local community and with it's workforce.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
