We’ve made the trip over t’ill for the first time in many, many years. Wanted to go to Barcelona. Jet 2 prices, as usual, were very high, Ryanair only dropped in at Girona requiring a train/bus journey which might as well be undertaken in the UK so we took the train to MAN and flew with Vueling. Enjoyable flight in an A320. Even travelling first class on the train to MAN it was 50% cheaper than going with Jet2 from LBA. MAN security was fine but I much prefer LBA to T3 at MAN which was unimpressive. Won’t be deserting LBA ever but I’ll use this option again if it fits. As we’re retired the time taken issue isn’t a relevant to us.

So we might as well all go to Manchester and save a lot of money !
Pointless keeping Lba open if it’s twice the price of flying from Manchester and it’s so easy to get there why waste money developing Leeds ?

Yeah @a300boy just shut LBA down and build a new houses and shopping complex on it.
I'm sure we be all happy then travelling to Manchester in either our electric cars or by Train @Bigman.
Oh it will also mean Leeds City Council hits it clean air Cabon emissions traget @Tarn Spotter

Wonder how much AMP Capital could make out of the sale of the site?
Just think how much leftie Labour run Leeds City Council could save not having to invest in building a train station or link road?
And not to mention our friends at Extinction Rebellion would have won the campaign! #gretathunberg

I must admit it is all very quiet. Unless of course there is some major underlying plan that they want to announce all at once. Damn alarm clock!
Same with BHX and BRS - very quiet at the moment with substantial TCX losses at both airports.

That would suit me my house would probably be worth more with no Airport next to it.
Not what I want but it’s so boring these days like all on the forum we need some good news for a change and it’s pretty unlikely at present.

What a shocker of a year at LBA ! I'm so disappointed this year and also frustrated as LBA should most definitely NOT be in this position. No new routes, airlines whatsoever,in fact the total opersite,a total unacceptable position! I will say it again but if we ever did get a vastly improved terminal and runway improvements or extension then we would not be as we are now!

Yes of course to all these recent comments. BUT there would just be something else for everyone to moan about wouldn't there. I don't particularly like change so I'll stick with moaning about what we've got thank you.

I thought you might fight2win. Yawn.

If the airline business was booming and LBA was not taking advantage then we would probably have reason to moan, but given the current state with airlines going under and others cutting costs by reducing staff and routes then to expect LBA to be expanding and dramatically increasing passenger numbers in this climate is Unicorn thinking I’m afraid.

So it’s sensible the proposed terminal work is halted and re assessed as it may be several years before we need it.
New routes are being added at other northern airports but sadly Yorkshire’s two airports are being wound down and probably revenues will be hit too.
My original point was that a poster had noted the difference costs of similar flights to the same destination and the ease of flying from Manchester instead of Lba which is another nail in the coffin if true.
What chance do we have of expanding with so many things against us ?

Agreed and my point was reality surrounding the state of the industry just now. That said the terminal extension remains a must and would put LBA in a stronger position once the industry situation improves. Good business sense says airlines are going to play with safe markets, and currently we have to accept that MAN is that safe market. That doesn't mean LBA won't bounce back but patience is going to have to be a virtue right now where LBA is concerned. Some airports have lost huge amounts through the TC collapse and not all that capacity will be replaced so LBA is not alone. Domestically we are too central unfortunately. Business to the near continent needs flag carriers who ain't gonna start the route in these uncertain times. Jet2 will step in with replacing some holiday capacity so let's be thankful the situation isn't any worse, because it certainly could be.

Yes I am told TC was around 10% of Manchester’s total movement so that’s probably where Jet 2 will be concentrating their efforts for some time to come.

Yes but how many of those 10% originated from the LBA area and had to go over the hill because TCX didn't fly from here other than to Tunisia? Quite a few. So Jet2 can pick up some of the lost TCX passengers and re-direct them to LBA by increasing their offering from LBA, in addition to doing so at ex TCX bases such as MAN and BHX.

Agreed so let’s see what they choose to do.
We are told that 3 A330s will be based at Manchester for Jet 2 next year but still lots of passengers to pick up not forgetting the Ryanair cutbacks at Lba next winter and summer.

I have just been reading an interesting article about the failures of Boeing, and the success of Airbus in taking over the (previously Bombardier) A220 project. It sounds as though the A220 is going to be a superb aircraft with a large number now on order (around 500). This is the aircraft that Jet2 mentioned as being the possible replacement for their 737 300s, and is an extremely efficient aircraft, built out of composite materials. The article said that there are plans to build a larger capacity version, still single aisle, that would enable airlines to operate trans Atlantic and on other long haul routes to cities where there was insufficient demand to warrant a larger aircraft type. Lets hope that in the future the A220 becomes a familiar sight at LBA, both with Jet2 and with other airlines, operating longer haul flights to destinations both West and East of here.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. The news items can then be shared on the site homepage by you. #TakePart #Forums4airports Bring the news to one place!
survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
