Thanks White Heather, I completely agree with your comments. I cannot see anyone suggesting it might succeed in the future. Now we get politicians saying that we need to save 800 jobs, the airport is vital for the economic welfare of the region, etc etc but only a few months ago they were saying a new terminal at LBA was not needed, the extra jobs that would go with it were not that important. It was all negative! Ironic and to think the owners of LBA were willing to put up the money for the new terminal as they could see the financial benefits for everyone. I wonder if the LBA management regret their decision to withdraw the plans and the public inquiry because now I am sure it would sail through and work could get underway, work which is very much needed! Bye the way -how are plans for the Parkway Station going?

Last I heard they were at detailed design stage.

It has been confirmed that DSA is to permanently close at the end of october! Terrible news and pretty shocked myself, didnt realise things were that bad, a big shame LBA is not getting its new terminal as the airport would of had a good product to sell to wizz and tui, but who knows we might still see them at LBA.
Where have you seen this?

Everyone knows DSA stands for Doncaster Shuts Airport! Joking apart it is not nice to see anyone potentially lose their jobs and certainly not in an industry we all care about so much. Selfishly though, let’s hope LBA can pick up some surplus

How likely is it that LBA would see anything what would be in for Wizz I genuinely couldn't see it myself?

Maybe TUI would look at basing a plane or two but why not just put them back into EMA and Manchester and what stand capacity has LBA got spare overnight for TUI?

NPAS will surely want to head to LBA would 2 Excel fit in at LBA?

I can’t see Leeds benefiting if DSA was to close tbh. With regards to stand capacity there isn’t much room left once all the flights are in. It’s pretty much full.

I did read an article yesterday where it did say the end of October however it doesn’t seem to be there now. As I’m guessing it wasn’t accurate.

Nothing official however it seems likely the end of the summer season and all commercial flights stop not sure if the likes of 2Excel will get a little grace to sort themselves out properly however if staff leave in numbers then the airport would obviously become unviable, I really hope that Peel have it in them to see the summer out fully.

I see the airport have been awarded level 2 carbon accreditation. I don’t see GALBA congratulating the airport on reducing its carbon footprint!

Of course not, because in my opinion, GALBA are just a bunch of hypocritical NIMBYs that masquerade as being environmentalists. Their name is a clue. Group Against Leeds Bradford Airport. They oppose the airport and its existence. The airport reducing its carbon emissions is of no interest to them unless it's the result of reduced, or zero aircraft movements.

Well, the new South Yorkshire Mayor, Oliver Coppard, is kicking off big style at Peel Group over the possible closure of DSA. Somehow, I cannot imagine our Mayor doing anything of the sort if it were LBA facing closure!

Apparently, DSA has already had a loan of £8m from the local authorities and they were in discussion about another loan of £20m until asked to supply the LAs with financial information, which they didn't do.

I cannot imagine any of the West Yorkshire LAs (or North Yorkshire) offering LBA a penny to assist with developments.

Have you sent this to the most anti airport, anti aviation, anti everything to get on with daily life councillor we have? Him who likes the sound of his own voice. If you haven't I would be delighted to send it to the idiot.

There’s been 2 very short final approaches today by the Ryanair Girona and Zadar flights onto R14. They’ve turned quite tightly over Ilkley for a 7 mile final whereas normally we see them turning around the start of Bolton Abbey for a 14 mile final. Would it be weather related? The Zadar flight was quite a way off the normal flight path after it’s turn but corrected. Just curious.

I would say very unlikely, unless the pilots were trying to just get down quicker to avoid low level turbulence caused by thermal activity.

More likely to be carrying out a visual approach.

I dont profess to know, but I would have thought it could be quite hard to intercept at 7 miles and establish a stable approach. Quite a high cockpit workload.

Thanks for your replies guy. It’s certainly quite abnormal and it was only these 2 flights. All the rest followed the usual approach until the wind suddenly changed and the more common 32 approach/departure was used.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
