The size of MAN and STN would make them strong candidates anyway. Looking at the number of Ryanair flights operating to BRS this summer suggests that BRS would need at least a 6-aircraft base to operate them all with based aircraft, so the offering isn't too bad in itself.

It's somewhat strange to see Ryanair expanding during the winter but somewhat stagnant during the summer when demand should be highest. I always feel that Ryanair has never reached their full potential from Bristol and I'm not sure why.

Ryanair's small increases in Summer 2018 is not only at BRS but across the UK with a few exceptions, so I wouldn't worry!
In Jan-Mar 2018, out of all RYR UK bases (not including STN), BRS saw the biggest increase in number of departures in comparison the same period last year. Quite impressive really! Only EDI and LBA saw increases during this period too whereas MAN, EMA, BHX, LPL, LTN, GLA, BFS, BOH all saw decreases and PIK no change. Out of these decreases, some were big (LTN, BFS) and some small (LPL, GLA).

From Apr-Jul 2018, out of all RYR UK bases (not including STN), only EMA, PIK and BOH have seen decreases in the number of departures in comparison to the same period last year. The rest of the UK bases have all seen increases, the biggest of which have been MAN (+659 more flights during this three month period) and EDI (+531).
GLA has seen big increases too (+186) but not to the same scale as MAN and EDI.
After that, BRS sees the biggest increase (+63) followed by LTN (+57), LPL (+50), LBA (+31) and BHX only (+11).

Hope that gives you some insight as to Ryanair's current operations. It does seem that they have not really been increasing any of the UK bases apart from MAN and EDI during Summer 18 (which have both seen an increase in the number of based aircraft) with all other bases having only small increases if any. Winters seem to be where Ryanair are making the largest increases and BRS is no exception this coming Winter!

Still a significant increase on last winter apart from November with easyJet at 4 x weekly in that month like Ryanair. Time will tell if there are still too many seats for winter. With this sort of thing I alway think back to easyJet and Ryanair going daily against each other to Malpensa and Bergamo respectively.

That combined rate of frequency turned out to be overkill in the end and BRS went from feast to near famine with Ryanair operating just 3 x weekly to Bergamo and easyJet not serving Milan at all from the airport.

I'd love to know why not given that they serve Rome, Naples, Pisa, Genoa and Venice as well as the Italian island regions of Sardinia (Olbia) and Sicily (Catania). You'd think that Malpensa would be ahead of some of those even going head to head with Ryanair at less than the previous daly schedule for both airlines. bmi regional's Malpensa is barely a footnote.

CAA stats show 1339 passengers were carried between BRS and SNN in May, average load of 133.9, load factor 70.8%. As a comparison the LPL-SNN route commenced at the same time by Ryanair carried over 200 fewer.

To put some context into these passenger numbers (with the overriding caveat that the yield is always the key) BRS-NOC (Knock) carried 3579 passengers on its 3 x weekly service, average load 137.6, load factor 72.8%. This is a typical May load factor for BRS-NOC in recent years: May 2017 saw 73% (with August's 93% the highest month as it has been most years), May 2016 69% and May 2015 72%.

BRS-NOC has been operating for over ten years, mainly summer only, but it resumes as year-round from the coming winter despite the less than usual Ryanair load factors over the decade. I'm not suggesting that BRS-SNN is about to go year-round - it was announced as a summer route - but it does show that Ryanair appears content to operate on load factors well below its airline average on such routes.

Some unhappy customers after the Ryanair AGP-BRS-AGP rotation was cancelled yesterday. Ryanair say there were staff shortages in European air traffic control leading to the cancellation.

And easyJet is 4 weekly Nov; 5/6 weekly Dec; 4/5 weekly Jan and Feb; 5 weekly March. With the extra flights generally this winter from easyJet and Ryanair, as well as a bit more from TUI, it will be interesting to see how the loads hold up. The yields we can never know of course.

Interesting that it's Poznan which has usually operated 2 x weekly all year. This year Gdansk is 3 x weekly from July to Sept (2 x weekly for rest of summer) yet reverts to 2 x weekly in winter. With Krakow increasing to 4 x weekly (against easyJet) Warsaw Modlin remains at 4 x weekly through the winter but Rzeszow and Wroclaw remain at 2 x weekly this winter, as does Katowice with Wizz. I wonder if Rzeszow and/or Wroclaw will now be increased.

These increases do seem a bit surprising as Brexit gets ever nearer, especially given the doom and gloom expressed by Ryanair representatives about the subject back along. Perhaps they think this winter will see a mass exeunt of Polish workers heading home.🙂

And Malta goes 3 weekly as well.

I can't remember Malta going 3 x weekly in winter for a long time. That's usually the summer frequency.

BRS got away with strikes Wednesday.All around Europe over 600 Ryanair flights got cancelled. This must be hitting Ryanair hard in the pocket.

From the 1st November 2018 the Winter season starts, and with that, there is the normal reduction in frequencies on most routes.
The RYR Winter 18/19 schedules from BRS however, (like last year), show impressive growth year on year.
This winter season there will be 13x extra departures per week in comparison to last. This is true for most of the weeks from Nov-Mar not including the few weeks around Christmas.

Taking a week at the beginning of December the changes in comparison to the same time in 2017 are:

VCE (4>5) +1
KRK (3>4) +1
POZ (2>3) +1
MLA (2>3) +1
NOC (0>3) +3 (NEW)
VLC (0>2) +2 (NEW)
LIG (0>2) +2 (NEW)

These changes mean that from the beginning of Nov to the end of Dec 2018 there will be at least 104 extra departures in comparison to the same period in 2017. (That's nearly 20,000 extra departing seats in just two months)!

I'll come back nearer the time with a more comprehensive overview.

I forgot to add that the Winter 18/19 schedule will require 4 based aircraft. Winter 16/17 and 17/18 have only required 3 based aircraft.
