No, they have taken a purchase option on the 6 A310's already on lease from Airbus.

The 6X Airbus A310's that PIA have bought from Airbus are the Pratt & Whitney PW4000 powered machines AP-BGN, AP-BGO, AP-BGP, AP-BGQ. AP-BGR, AP-BGS all off which mainly only operate domestic and short distance routes. They don't often get seen out on there longer routes and I don't think they have been seen at LBA.

PIA normally use there already owned General Electric CF6-80C2A7 powered Airbus A310's AP-BDZ, AP-BEB, AP-BEC, AP-BEG, AP-BEQ & AP-BEU on the longer routes to Asia and Europe. I don't know what's happening with these but as I posted in the worldwide airline forum the other day I've already mentioned the fact that PIA had just ordered 5x brand new 777's from Boeing with deliveries commencing from March 2015.

I wonder if these are replacements for the above examples?

Where is that photo taken? The houses behind look like those in Cookridge, but other parts of the photo don't look like Cookridge. Any ideas?

Hi White Heather,

She came in on 14, and this shot was taken just after turning around in the pan starting to back track. Taken from the fence line abeam 32 threshold.

Just seen PIA775 (AP-BEU) on approach into LBA... it really does seem strange watching the aircraft land this early, even running 10mins ahead of schedule!

I know it does, only a few months ago it didn't arrive until half 6 and didn't depart until 8, now it leaving two hours early.

Also the EU ETS scheme could lead to refueling stops required if the Russians decide to ban airlines operating services into Europe flying other their airspace, as i know that this service fly's through Siberian airspace to get to LBA on most flights.

I was confused regarding the PIA turning in the Pan which is nearest to the golf course on the old 01/19 threshhold where the Ryanair is parked.

If it did that, perhaps the flight deck crew were confused too! If it landed on 14, perhaps ATC asked it to vacate on to the pan due to another aircraft landing behind, as I would have thought that the A310 would need to backtrack down the runway to the intersection, rather than going down the North/South taxiway (or whatever its called these days). Another flight right behind and the need to vacate the runway is the only reason I can think of why it would end up in the pan.

PIA have today been issued a 2 month ultimatum. Sort out their safety issues, or face a full EU ban.

Should be one to watch.

I trust you mean the A310 fleet. The French had reported serious safety concerns with the A310 after an inspection was carried out at Charles De Gaulle Airport a few months back.

It could also mean there 747's and 777 aircraft Aviador, recently there have been concerns regarding safety on the 777, a few weeks back a 777 flew from LHR to ISB with a blocked up toilet flowing into the cabin and in peoples bag and such and it leaked into the wiring system. They currently have 2 777 aircraft out of service as this time. And as for the A310's we all know it has been coming since that day in Paris it was just a matter of time.

Its going to be a full ban on all PIA aircraft if this get implemented by the EU in 2 months time. So No it wont be just the Airbus A310's that are effected, It will also include all there Boeing 777's & Boeing 747's which visit European airspace as well.

Nope the entire fleet could be banned from Europe.

A few years ago, PIA had to hire a Malaysian Airlines B777-200 to operate the Manchester flights due to the B747 and A310 ban, this was back in the day when they only had 1-2 B777's themselves.

There have been recent incidents such as cargo shifting whilst inflight, which then prevented them opening the fwd cargo door as the pallet had jammed under the door mechanism.

Bad times for PIA. They have fallen a long way from when they helped a little, unknown airline called Emirates get off the ground.

It is incredible to think PIA have any customers at all considering how poor their safety standards are believed to be. However, given that Air France passenger numbers (who have a not dissimilar safety record to PIA) have remained consistent, it is unsurprising.

Quite seriously though, I can't help feeling that the French authorities should spend a little less time criticising others and a little more time looking closer to home. The tendency of the French authorities is to blame or scapegoat any non French entity when it comes to any matter regarding safety and it does not surprise me to learn that they are spearheading the bid to ban PIA.

With regards to LBA, an EU ban would obviously hurt the operation but only to the extent that EU-Pakistan connections would suffer. Most of the legacy airlines have some form of service to Pakistan through their hubs. You can't help feeling that, should PIA dissapear, so would any Pakistan route from LBA for many, many years. Maybe this is the time to start pushing harder for a Dubai connection.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
