I'd expect Turkish would be looking more at onward connecting traffic than point 2 point traffic.
Yes I agree but if they got in first they would get both

It often takes one carrier to fly a route to make others compete (RAK, CPH etc)
and we can’t say goodbye to Turkish if we’ve never said hello to them.
Ha ha yes but let’s hope it does encourage some one else !

Is this such good news ? Does it mean we can say goodbye to Turkish on the route ?
I’d say it’s news but I don’t think it’s really great news. The benefit for me of Istanbul is onward travel, so Turkish airlines as other have said. The market I’m sure is there.. with 10 million passengers a year, I’m not sure what more BRS needs to do?

I think it needs to be remembered that when it comes to airlines like Turkish BRS is essentially competing with their offering and other direct routes at Heathrow. Whereas Easyjet isn't. It will take a lot to convince an airline like Turkish that they won't dilute their own Heathrow flights and will take passengers from other airlines like BA and Emirates.

Further east? One of the ME3? Doubtful.
Well emirates are just about to get the 350 900 so you never know.. I also read that Cardiff continues to struggle with numbers and finances. I wonder how long Qatar will continue to consider CWL as a credible option despite the government involvement.
I’m sure the Middle East were still on the wish list for Bristol.

The problem is that Bristol doesn't have cargo and for ME3 airlines using wide bodies that may well be a stumbling block.

I think that, despite their comments to the contrary, CWL has been off QTR’s radar for some time. I agree with the point about cargo being a stumbling block at BRS. I think THY is a better fit.

Just because there are no current arrangements for freight it doesn’t necessarily mean they cannot be provided in the future, particularly if that would be a clincher to get a major airline in.
In the past there has been freight carried by the airlines. Continental when they started would occasionally be loaded with freight, even remember Go, before being taken over by EasyJet, coming in from Belfast with live prawns that would then go on to Barcelona.
There are many other examples in the past so I don’t think we should rule out the possibility of some sort of freight returning.

There was talk back in the near past of the airport pursuing a form of freight handling in the past. If emirates rocked up I’m sure Bristol would do whatever the airline asked for.

I’ve noticed for a while that Kefalonia hasn’t been added on for next summer. However I seem to remember a few years ago a similar thing had happened and it was added on later ( when no one is looking ). I’ve noticed that Istanbul and Agadir haven’t been released ( I understood these to be year round ?)

There is still a way to go yet so they might add it later on.

Looking on the holidays website there appears to be an increase in frequencies for so far Sicily , santorini and Madeira. Nothing on sale so far but something to watch

Will Istanbul be a winter only flight ? Early winter now on sale but nothing for next summer ? I’m sure all the press releases state all year round ?

Although the winter flights are now on sale , there is plenty of work to do on the summer schedule which hasn’t been updated in a while, with plenty of gaps. New routes and updated summer schedules should be out in the next month or so looking at previous years.
Hoping Istanbul will be year round, and the likes of double daily ORY (which currently just stops mid-June according to the current schedule) continues through the summer months.

Loads of new routes were announced last night from every base except Bristol !!

Hi, I was born and lived in B36 for a long time - Lindale Avenue, just around the corner from Hodge Hill Comp.
I just noticed your postcode on a post.

Do you still live in the area?

49 trips undertaken last year. First done this year which was to North Wales where surprisingly the only slippery surfaces were in Conwy with the castle and it's walls closed due to the ice.
