Just read the passenger reviews on Eurowings it seems they are not at all pleased with just about everything.....

Just been speaking with my son who lives in Germany, apparently Eurowings are having a bad time of it over there primarily all due to the wayward pilot who deliberately flew the aircraft into the mountain on the flight back to Germany from Spain, was it last year or late 2016, killing all on board. The airline was then called Germanwings and changed their name to Eurowings to try and disassociate themselves from the bad publicity. Unfortunately this does not seem to have worked as the German population are not easily fooled by the name changed. Action by one man, affected public confidence in Germanwings/Eurowings for the horrendous loss of life as there seemed to be no hard and fast rules requiring a second person to be on the flight deck at the time when the captain/second officer takes a toilet break. Apparently they are very cheap compared to national carriers and offer a no frills experience.

Could it be charter related as Air Europa also appear? Not the most reliable but on Wikipedia it shows HUY as a destination which is probably a replacement for Germanic - could be something similar for LBA. Hopefully something will come from this, but they have updates schedules and nowt new has appeared.
Eurowings have been operating on behalf of TUI from PMI to Cardiff for the last 2 years so they could be something similar.

Please remember rumours are just rumours, thats until anything gets officially announced!

Meanwhile Eurowings has grown quite substantially as an low cost airline operator over the past 9 months. They are in fact just about to come to the end of the process of integrating 77+ aircraft from its failed rival Air Berlin into its own fleet.

So I guess it makes sense that Eurowings might be looking to open up new routes and adding new destinations. These aircraft will need to be in the air making money, with paying passengers on-board "because they'll make diddly sawt bein sat around doing nowt"

I think reality rather than negativity. Remember we have been here before. I actually believe this is a takeover of BER though by Eurowings. Business confidentiality and all that. It fits with what LBA management are looking for with business routes and Germany is vastly untapped from LBA - for now ANYWAY!

We at LBA are certainly not in any position to be picky so I would welcome Eurowings whatever their difficulties, not just on Berlin, but also on any other German route they care to try, as we will have a long wait if we are wanting Lufthansa. They seem very like a German version of Vueling in Spain, who also seem to attract a lot of negativity. If they do come, I certainly hope they last longer than Vueling did.

The last time I was at Frankfurt, Eurowings were doing a significant number of regional routes with CRJ's. This is the same at Dusseldorf. Lufthansa Cityline seem to be more based at Munich.

Out of interest does anyone know if the AMP Capital are doing or offering joint deals with airlines and operators for services into both LBA and NCL now that the part of same management company?
I'm think along the lines of what Peel Group do with Wizz Air for DSA & LPL or Manchester Airport group dose of its airports at MAN/STN & EMA.

So for example where Airline (A) is Ryanair and Airline (B) is Easyjet
  • So Airline (A) wants to expand its based operations at LBA, but its tied into a deal of adding some extra routes up the road at NCL where it dose not currently have a base ,
  • Or Airline (B) wants to expand its based operations at NCL, but its tied into offering something new from down here at LBA.

I heard a rumour they were starting ops with a Pear of Peach King Airs serving the Big Apple. On a serious note all has gone very quiet re Eurowings and any KLM aircraft upgrade. Certainly can't find any clues from GDS. There were still hints yesterday in line with the Terminal development that there are things in the pipeline. I have recently heard that a previous LBA airline may be returning. But we have enough with the unreliability of T3 so the unreliability of the possible returners is just what we need - not!

Is that the the Orange mob, Airline in blue with Union tail, or the airline with a Tarten livered tail?
If its not them, are we thinking further back in time!

Certainly not former or latter, not that I know of anyway. You need to be thinking along the lines of the airline who at one time op LHR, CDG, BRU, EDI, GLA albeit in a slightly different guise at that time. Not sure where any aircraft would come from to op though as they cancel so much of what they currently op as it is

You are pretty much on the money on both counts there but we shall believe it when we see it. My understanding is it may also include Germany too. They were very quick to run from LBA a few years ago but they are probably one of only two UK airlines that could do anything LBA to Europe so may not be as far-fetched as it may seem right now. The LBA landscape has changed from when they were last here and very much for the better, with further improvements to come

If bmi regional were to open a German route surely it will be Munich, seen as they have a operating base down there now-a-days. It might possibly also include a Lufthansa codeshare and relink LBA with the Star Alliance group. A Brussles route would also open up connections with Brussels Airlines again.

Either you are a mind-reader, great minds think alike or there is no smoke without fire!

Well, at today's Consultative Committee meeting we were told, up front, that a deputation of AMP Capital investors had just spent 3 days visiting Leeds (they were impressed) and today, conducted a tour of LBA with David Laws. David confirmed that they had today signed off a deal with an airline to operate from LBA to a European Hub airport, but of course he would not say which airline or which hub, but an announcement is now imminent. Even more interesting was that he said around late October, he hoped to be able to announce another new airline, to be based at LBA.

Well for hearsay. My guesses are as follows.

New European Hub Route/Airline to be announced shortly =
Air France or Air France Hop to Paris (They might Possibly announce upgrade of KLM's Amsterdam route to B737 on same day).
New based Airline to be possibly announced late October =
The return of bmi regional = 1x Embraer 145 to be based LBA and opening 2 new routes Brussels & Munich.
