Excellent, Jerry. Which runway did you use at CWL? I often see inbounds for CWL south of Bristol and in the Weston-super-Mare area but not so many outbounds.

The rought diamond shape at the top left of the airport complex is the 'South Side' which is the home to general aviation, air taxis and private charters, the FBO Centreline including its lounges for private charters and shuttles, the new admin building, new fire station, as well as the very large Silver Zone surface car park and its reception building.

The opposite side 'North Side' is the main airport complex where all scheduled and public charter traffic is handled.

Towards the top of the picture on the left can be seen the outline of Blagdon Lake below the Mendip village of Blagdon. This is a 120 year-old reservoir constructed to provide water for Bristol and its environs. Shortly afterwards you would have passed Chew Valley Lake also on your right, an even larger reservoir dating from the 1950s also used to provide water for Bristol and its region, together with Cheddar Reservoir on the south side of the Mendips and Barrow Gurney reservoirs along the A38 between the airport and the city. Chew Valley and Blagdon are also two internationally-known fishing lakes. Interesting that much of Bristol's water is sourced from the south of the city not so many miles from the airport.

When do you return, Jerry? Is it with KLM to CWL?

Addendum 1935 hours

I've just read your post in the CWL forum which answers my last question.

Runway 12 which was surprising as the aircraft arrived from EDI on runway 30.

Just at AMS now waiting to catch my flight to Cardiff after a great flight from Berlin.

I presume that's the reason for your relative proximity to BRS.

The terminal looks very busy. Good to see.
I think that Jerry went in the early morning, the airport's biggest single period for departures in the 24-hour cycle - up to 30 before 8am.

That said, there aren't many times during the day, especially in summer, when the terminal is not busy - over 100 departures between around 0600 and 2200 most days in summer. Although the terminal that opened in 2000 has been expanded several times, the airport wants to expand it still further as it hopes to have its planning cap of 10 mppa lifted to 12 mppa.

As with the Extinction Rebellion protests against LBA terminal expansion that is in the the news again today, so there have been similar demonstrations by this organisation and others against the BRS expansion.

Yes I can believe it. In my days at LBA the same period was the busiest. I'm sure it's the same at most UK airports. We would see in the region of 5000 passengers pass through the doors during this busy period. I imagine BRS will probably handle in the region of around 7000 passengers during the same period. Although busy it doesn't look excessive or crammed and there are still some seats available.

Very good pictures on a gloomy day. (y)

Many thanks, Jerry. Very good pics as always.

Mid-morning at BRS is usually the quietest period at any time, let alone during the current cutbacks.

I'd imagine that is amplified on a sunday as there are less domestic morning returns.

That's true but in normal times it's still relatively quiet during the mid-morning weekdays.

A pictorial look back at BRS through the years published by the local rag. Not particularly engrossing - they seem to concentrate mainly on passengers in the terminal - but it does contain some things of interest.

Great pictures Jerry. Good to see you managed to take some shots of your homeland in the background. The western end of the field can be a spectacular backdrop on a sunny day or when the sun is setting in summer. The vista across the estuary looks broodingly atmospheric in your pics on a fairly dull afternoon. I like that.

I was watching one of our grandsons playing football this afternoon. The pitch is almost under the runway 27 approach path about seven miles out. I saw a number of inbounds including an easyJet A321. There have been two 321s based in recent weeks - not sure if there still are.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
