Early to mid 2000's when we had a My Travel Airways A320 aircraft based at LBA or the leased Canadian Sky Service.

Its another Airline livery I really do miss. And we now know its one tour operator Thomas Cook Group should have never bought.

Although Air Europa was part of the International Leisure Group (ILG), the parent company of Air Europe and Intasun Holidays (ILG was the second largest UK tour operator after Thomson for much of the 1980s), Air Europa was largely owned by Spanish banks that enabled it to continue and flourish after March 1991 when ILG ceased trading. My wife and I were on holiday in Majorca when it happened - fortunately for us with Thomson Holidays and Britannia Airways.

There is something of a parallel with Thomas Cook and Condor.

Today marks thirty-five years since LBA's runway extension was opened. I think a Braathens 737 turned up later in the day, as well as the two 747s and regular schedules.
That is correct - there was definitely a Braathens 737 200 that came in after the two 747s. Braathens were not uncommon at LBA back then, with occasional visits of the 737 and their F27s before that. I once had a 1/72 scale model of their Braathens F27! (Airfix made it, before they later changed it to an Aer Lingus example).

I had a braathens 767 model, was one of my first! :)

At one time the airline's name was Braathens SAFE. I used to wonder how many people not 'into' aviation wondered whether Braathens was trying to suggest it was a safe airline whereas others might not be.

SAFE actually stood for South American and Far East Airtransport.

Braathens, Busy Bee, Nor-fly and Mey Air all paid visits to LBA in the 70s and 80s. I guess some, if not all, were Leeds United related.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. The news items can then be shared on the site homepage by you. #TakePart #Forums4airports Bring the news to one place!
survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
