What I like about this forum (not) is that even here, everything positive ends up as not good enough, or brings about criticism . Play is not not enough, or like this week, with the new Wizz flights, an immediate focus on delays, suggestions Wizz wont be happy, poor management, LBA must do better etc. etc.

It would be so good if for once we could celebrate something good without immediately looking for something negative. The irony is that we complain about the media always looking at the negatives, yet we do exactly the same on here.

That's well said WH. I think there is a history there where LBA has been left behind, or airlines havent supported it well enough. Perhaps Capital, Ryanair, Monarch and of course Jet2 aside that is and that's possibly what causes some of the negativity. I have said already that I expect Wizz to go from strength to strength at LBA. Jet2 upping capacity next year and all being well a bit more TUI. It's only going to be outside factors that hold things back. I for one think the future is looking rather bright just now

If Play does indeed launch LBA, then I do hope that they will not replicate what appears to be the situation at LPL and not offer peak summer flights. What would be the point of an airline trying to mirror in a minor way what Icelandair does with a transatlantic sector feeding to a European sector if you then decide to not offer the European sector? To get passengers confidence in regularity of service you need to offer it week in, week out year-round especially with them being an relatively unknown airline.

Icelandair won't mind whatsover that kind of "limited" operation from competing airports with them flying up to 2 times daily on the MAN-KEF sector. Even easyJet flies up to 2 times daily on the MAN-KEF sector so they won't be unduly worried either.

You do have a point although valid comments, even though they may be negative are still valid.

I agree all comments are valid but also do think LBA gets slated much more than it should. Its bouncing back really well post COVID and was at 4mppa pre COVID so cant be all that bad can it. I know probably more for Weather and Delays thread but we all going "I wonder if Wizz will suffer with weather". Now up to day 8 of Ops and nothing yet lost that I know of. So whilst yes there will be some dodgy days to come again we were perhaps skating unfairly

I did say PLAY was on my Wishlist! Jet2 have a small series running for next winter I think to KEF but a year round 2/3 weekly would be ideal. again ive heard they have got slots at MAN also, wouldn't make much sense doing LPL & MAN. MAN has Icelandair, easyJet & Jet2 on the route. LBA makes a lot more sense. be great to see a regular link from a new airline. Wonder how its preforming from LPL/ hopefully well if they are looking at expanding into another UK region.

Would love to see PLAY at LBA! Really good return prices too. A few days in Iceland then fly onto the states as KEF would be a decent connecting airport. Also to note they fly to ALC from KEF so handy for myself and folks with owning a property near ALC.
Hope we get these flights, onwards and upwards!

If you've got access to the plimary slot report for LBA summer 2023, are FreeBird shown operating the 2x weekly TUi charters to Antalya & Dalaman?
Yes. FHY515/516 on days 3/7 from AYT arrives 0835 and departs 0935. FHY621/622 on days 3/7 from DLM, day 3 1935/2035 through LBA and day 7 1900/2000. A320. Wednesday evening should be fun with that and three Wizzes (is that the plural? Wazzae.. perhaps not!) at very similar timings.

Also I might have missed this but did TUI say anything about an extra LBA/Palma? There's a Wednesday 737 W pattern in there alongside the Tue PMI, Thu DBV, Fri CFU and Sat PMI.

Thanks for the update @Starflyer , it's much appreciated.

Yeah TUI did confirm the 3rd weekly PMI Wednesday flight. It will be good to see them blue smiley tails 5x times a week next summer

With the health warning that the slots filed might not resemble what the airline actually later does, Ryanair is showing FAO on an LBA-based aircraft on Tue am then Wed & Thu am on a Faro-based 737 and Sat pm on a Faro-based 737 also. Not sure if that might get "ported" over to the booking system at some time along with anything else they're planning?

seanM1997 is hinting of airlines that *Might* start new uk routes in Summer 2023. One wonders if Lufthansa Regional might be for LBA. Thinking of the routes they serve, Liverpool, Newcastle, Bristol Ect a link to Yorkshire would be good and also a direct route to Germany.
I’d certainly hope so. It’s been too long without routes to Germany overall let alone Frankfurt/Munich

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
