That's a mute point, I must admit.

I think the Canary Island only count because they're part of Spain but I think the Islands have been trying to seek independence for a number of years. That's a mute point, I must admit.
Like it or not, geographically, they are not in or anywhere near Europe really. Cape St Vincent on the Algarve is said to be the most South Westerly point in Europe - which wont be true if these islands which are hundreds of miles further South, are also classed as Europe. That's a mute point, I must admit.
Which is pretty much what I've been saying. It's Geography that determines which continent islands are part of not the culture of those who live on them. The general consensus seems to be that
“Geographically the islands are part of the African continent but from a historical, economical, political and socio-cultural point of view, the Canaries are completely European”.

I wonder which governments he means? UK? or devolved? As both Yorkshire and Wales have devolution.Well I think this article all but rules out Emirates coming to Leeds/Bradford anytime soon according to the airline's president Sir Tim Clark.
However, he said the lack of government support for the regions meant some airports, like Cardiff and Leeds Bradford, “are struggling”. “There was a seismic shift in de-industrialisation with the Thatcher era, and things did not get plugged in to replace.”

Emirates chief hints at growing ‘resilient’ UK operation and lowering fares
Sir Tim Clark told the Airlines 2023 conference in London the UK market has been ‘resilient to the fare levels’ the Gulf carrier currently has in place, adding: ‘I’m not saying they are going to last for ever’www.ttgmedia.com
Both probably.I wonder which governments he means? UK? or devolved? As both Yorkshire and Wales have devolution.
Is there anything that the West Yorkshire mayor can do to encourage Emirates to Leeds? Do they have the financial clout for incentives? Both probably.
The Mayor? Do something for LBA?Is there anything that the West Yorkshire mayor can do to encourage Emirates to Leeds? Do they have the financial clout for incentives?

Well if she was engaged by the airport and it's supporters positively maybe she would. I expect promoting West Yorkshire is part of her remit and politicians like nothing more than a good photo op!The Mayor? Do something for LBA?
That'll be the day.
She was asked by LBA to support the new terminal development, but totally failed to do so. She kept quiet whilst her famous five Labour MPs in Leeds all actively opposed it . Since then, she hasn't shown even the slightest interest in LBA even when the terminal development was announced recently. Not a word from her. If she can't take the credit, she's not interested.Well if she was engaged by the airport and it's supporters positively maybe she would. Still though the airport and it supporters need to continue to engage with her.She was asked by LBA to support the new terminal development, but totally failed to do so. Which as a supporter I have done a few years back (2021) I emailed her to ask her views of the Airport and new terminal plans to which I got a generic bot reply which was no use whatsoever.Still though the airport and it supporters need to continue to engage with her.
All you can do is keep trying to engage.I’m not sure what else you’re supposed to do if she chooses not to engage or bother responding.
