The airport aren't interested in giving people choice, they want bums on seats, and that's bucket and spade flights. They've all but conceded the premium/business flyer market to over the hill. Fair play for them for cutting their cloth accordingly, no point wasting time and money trying to attract airlines that won't work out in the long term. As has been stated elsewhere the only really feasible scheduled/legacy operation that would work from LBA would be a TK/AJet/Pegasus type connecting service through IST/SAW. Of your list MAD would be the most likely, with a lo-co operator. But Germany, forget about it.
That’s certainly not my understanding…..it’s a case of watch this space one the terminal developments complete….
As for jet2 - you only need to read the comments now on their social media channels….previously they were mostly positive riding on the back of their Covid response. That good will looks to be diminishing fast and now replaced with complaints over their flight time schedules, high prices and the loss of services such as the resort checkin service. It certainly doesn't seem this is just an LBA issue with jet2.

Loads of on line complaints on social media right now about Jet2 on their own pages and adverts. . Most unlike them, and disappointing. Many complaints relate to not getting a response to complaints already raised, which suggests that right now, there are more complaints than Jet2 are used to or able to deal with in reasonable time. I'm not suggesting all the complaints are valid or reasonable. People are quick to jump on the bandwagon - but there seems little doubt that Jet2s crown has slipped slightly this year.

Coincidence about a change of leadership at the top? They have clearly stated a fairly aggressive expansion plan but the rest of their infrastructure needs to keep pace with that and whilst yes some things this year have been out of their control, is this all happening just a bit too quickly I wonder?

Sorry that should have probably read coincide with the recent change of leadership at the top

Ive been saying for a while on here that I was concerned about the rapid growth of Jet2 (particularly the purchase of so many new aircraft), the perceived reduction in their customer service levels plus their potential to lose their reputation and thereby charge premium rates.

The general reaction was that there was nothing wrong and even if there was, they had so much money in the bank it wouldnt be an issue.

They need to be careful, it takes years to build a reputation but only an instant to lose it.

Growing is fine and buying aircraft is a necessity to do that, provided the money is there, but allowing an excellent customer service reputation to be diminished isn't fine and it's a real shame if that happens. Theres already been signs of cost cutting at airports but customer service is paramount. No doubt that a lot has happened this year that's outside Jet2s control, but there's been quite a few tech issues and whilst these things happen, customers perceived that as being down to the airline. The indications seem to be that Jet2 haven't grown their customer services department so are struggling to deal with complaints, whilst I've seen quite a few complaints about the lack of care in resort or during the airport transfer or even grotty hotels.

As I said, it's likely many if the complaints are exaggerated to try and get compensation and Jet2 investigations will hopefully identify these, but nevertheless, it will be interesting to see if they come too if the pile again when Which do their next ' Best Short Haul Airline' award. Hopefully, still the best.

Without their reputation for excellence their ability to charge premium rates will be diminished. They will have to either up their game or drop prices. With all those aircraft on order and associated debt theres a lot at stake.

Also, they need to find more for their aircraft to do in Winter. Maybe lease them out or preferably increase the number of Winter destinations.

I am hopeful that they will react positively to this wake-up call.

Suppose whether they are the best or not still may depend on how the competition are fairing. The gap certainly does appear to have narrowed. You have airlines like FR starting to up their game and even Wizz to some extent so I for one think Jet2 need to be very careful that they don't take their eye off the ball here just for the sake of expansion

I understand why everyone is so concerned about Jet2 load factors and expansion etc but, I really don’t think their is much need for it.

We are only just entering the school summer holidays period which is the busiest time for most airlines and airports. Load Factors will be naturally driven up by this.

On the high frequency routes LS will be aware some flights won’t be full, I assume they prefer offering customers a wider variety of flight times and holiday duration.

As for the price of their packages and flights it’s the same principle as most other businesses, supply and demand, which they seem to have buckets of.

As for people taking the cheaper options with other operators etc I fully understand why you would do so. However, I don’t see Jet2 as low cost or budget airline, I think their price reflects the service they provide. Even if they are charging £600 more for a holiday they will have their costs to cover. Most say they don’t notice the difference when they choose another operator etc - you definitely will notice the difference if something goes wrong.

This has turned quiet rambly but, I have been silently reading the LBA Jet2 page for the last couple of days just thinking how negative and moany! If LBA can provide Jet2 with some competition I’m sure prices will drop, until then I’m very grateful to see their red and sunshine tails all over LBA’s apron.

Well as they have just changed their order for 35 A320 neos (passenger capacity 180) to the same number of A321 neos (passenger capacity 232), bringing their total Airbus order to 146 321neos, they must be confident of being able to fill their increased capacity in the coming decade that the order covers.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
