Really? Doesn't mean LBA will get long haul does it. Long haul needs proper facilities like proper lounges, even when the old part is refurbished LBA has a lot of catching up to do to attract long haul airlines.
Do you actually read all the posts? I've just explained that this is not just someone posting nonsense. It reflects what LBA are trying to achieve. Perhaps you should be happy that they are ambitious rather than putting their efforts down.

Yes I do read them, you have your opinion and I have mine.

We will never get these flights…an odd 1 to Pakistan but in the main MAN will continue to rule the roost on long haul.
I hope I’m wrong but I personally feel we will be a small LTN Airport.

So on the one hand people come here and complain about LBA not having these kind of flights but then complain at the suggestion this could all change. How bizarre. The A321XLR is being sold as the perfect fit for smaller regional airports trying to establish some long haul on what might be thinner routes. Their range with a reduced passenger load than the larger aircraft makes the A321XLR ideal fit for airports like Newcastle; Luton; Leeds; Cardiff and Bristol with shorter runways with big ambitions.

In this case, what I posted, isn't an 'opinion' , it's a fact as stated by the LBA CEO, as to which routes they were targeting, and in one case, an airline is now recruiting staff for LBA to operate one of these routes.

On the one hand you claim LBA will never get these routes and then you almost dismiss flights to Pakistan as irrelevant, because them happening sort of disproves your argument doesn't it??

Lounges are not the be all and end all. Some passengers, in fact the vast majority, don't care about lounges, and never use them. Me included. How good a lounge is will make no difference to whether a route happens or not. Lounges make no money for airlines. Bums on seats do that.

The Leeds threads of late have become a pretty sad read.

Following a poster becoming personal toward me, I had some quiet time of just reading and not commenting. I have started to contribute a bit more, but I have found that the forum is not always a debate, it can be very strong opinions, quite often with tone and if not tone, sometimes poorly thought through language.

People sit behind the anonymity of the forum, and discuss things much more directly than they would in person. Face to face conversations people would be more respectful. Different opinions are fine, it’s just how we say them.

This forum is a great source of information and debate when used properly, please can we get back to that.

Have to agree, Pakistan is a niche service, the usual rules don't apply, same with our upcoming Saudi link (which will possibly operate to the detriment of the ISB flights, hence them wanting to get them going ASAP). USA link will be to Windsor Locks or Bradley on an A220 of Breeze and will operate for one season max as there's no connectivity at either end. Other than that it'll be lots of ALC's, PMI's etc. etc. just get used to it, it isn't so bad.

Exactly - 4m+ plus love what our airport has to offer. There are plenty of new "holiday destinations" and cities along with a couple of niche markets that will help LBA grow. We don't want too much too soon ahead of the full revamp being completed. I can't stress enough there is volatility in the market right now and it looks at the moment that we are relatively unscathed. Not to mention KLM going back to 4 daily, and their own metal, plus almost certainly Air Blue. Lots to be positive about without getting over impatient

You claim its a fact, I don't know if it is or not. To me relaxing in a nice lounge is very important to me but then you get punters happy to sit outside WH Smiths with a packet of crisps and a bottle of cider…each to their own I suppose.

Never in a million years have i thought about using a fancy airport lounge, i turn up 1h30mins to 2 hrs before dep, straight thru duty free, try get a good seat near to one of the screens (but also now in our fancy new dep lounge facing the windows) and just sit and wait for the flight gate to appear on screen. Guess im an airports nightmare when it comes to £ but end of the day at least im using the airport!

Guess it depends on the person but on Monday LBAs lounges were very busy. It depends on the lounge but they can be a nice place just to relax away from a rammed terminal.

Well we know that Heathrow is predominantly a long-haul airport; over 45million passengers travelling on long-haul routes. And we know that compared to somewhere like MAN (or even LGW) the aircraft operating these long-haul routes tend to be configured with more business / first class seats. So that's the place to look at in terms of floor space dedicated to lounges. Based on my fairly regular trips through T5, and the occasional use of Dragon Pass, I would agree with Heather that the vast majority of people there are not using lounges.

If it wasn't a fact, as stated by the CEO, I wouldn't have reported it. Or are you suggesting that I just make stuff up when reporting on the ACC meetings?

Whatever, the article you scorned was based on what the CEO has said, so whether these routes happen or not, it isn't the crap you claim it to be. As has been said, a positive view of the airports ambitions reads far better than one that is negative and simply belittles the efforts they are making to move forward.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. It only takes a couple of minutes to upload a news story with an accompanying image. The news items can then be shared on the site homepage by you. #TakePart #Forums4airports Bring the news to one place!
survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
