Hi All,

I went up to Yeadon Cemetery on Saturday afternoon between 2:15pm and 4pm. Here are some photos that I took: http://www.dropbox.com/gallery/2481695/ ... 2?h=485cc1 are you on any of them???

I got quite a lot of video too, I'll edit it and upload it this week.

I've hosted these photos using Dropbox, which is free online storage that you can access from computers, ipads and mobile phones, it's really good and free. You can get an account here : https://www.dropbox.com/referrals/NT...U5?src=global9 and if you do, i'll get a bit more free space : )

Enjoy!

Hi Galaxy

It's a shame you went down the Cemetery yesterday afternoon. As myself, Bigman and a few others meet up down at Multiflight Cafe for a catch up and a chat....

A great afternoon was had by all in the Sun up at LBA. The PIA, A310 seemed to make a perfect landing on runway 14 and it was running 5 mins early for once. Also nice to see the Jet Provost, G-BWOF making lots of noise.

Oh well maybe next time

Thanks for the comments everyone. To the Saturday afternoon Multiflight crew, I would have loved to have come down and met you all, but to be honest, as a pedestrian, Multiflight seems a bit intimidating, I feel like I should carry security clearance - which is why I prefer the cemetery. I was chuffed to get the Provost as so many time it has flown right over my house and I've never been ready for it.

When I process and edit my video you will see the aborted landing by (I think) the inbound Jet2 Jersey flight - I've no idea why it aborted, but i've been waiting years to film an aborted landing....and FINALLY it happened!

Can anyone tell me how to post photos directly on to this page and not using a link.
Many thanks.

The aborted landing by Jet2 Boeing 737-300, G-CELU on Saturday looked to have been caused by the previously landed Jet2, Boeing 757-200. It seemed to take sometime to taxiing along Delta and then entering on to the apron. So putting 2 and 2 together we thought at the time it might not had not cleared the active runway in time.

Disclaimer
By way this is not confirmed as to what happened. So it may have been caused by something else, So if anyone else can clear this up, it would be much appreciated.

Wawkrk you have to upload the pics to an alternate site (I use Photobucket), then paste the image code onto here. You could also upload them directly from your computer onto the Photo Gallery here on F4A, then ask one of the moderators such as Aviador to move them to this page.

An external host is not required any more. Fotums4airports can now host your pictures right here. If you visit the Gallery you will be given an option to upload directly to the site. Once you have uploaded your pictures you will then be given the codes to place your pictures within the forum. There is even a shortcut shown when you make a post if you click on [Gallery] in the BBCode. This might not be available until you have uploaded your first picture.

Some video from Saturday afternoon, approx 14:15 to 16:00. It's 1080 HD, although annoyingly I'm a bit shaky and slanted in places as I was getting a bit buffeted by the wind. The missed approach by G-CELU is at 08:08, although it isn't really a dramatic one, but you can see the wheels going back up. I was very pleased to get the Provost and the PIA - amazingly that is the first time that I have ever filmed the PIA actually landing.

I have a naive question now - is there a technical name for the wind gusts that follow aircraft as they come in to land? From where I was stood filming at the side you get a terrific blast from them and the sound they make is incredible. Out of interest, does landing speed or aircraft type impact upon when the gusts 'hit''? I seemed to notice that Ryanair's gusts came the quickest, and the 757 gusts were the stronger ones.

Enjoy!

The wind gusts after the aircraft has past is known as the wake.

The correct name for it is wake turbulence.

And whether the speed is actually faster I don't know but the size of the vortices and the associated risks do increase.

For example you may hear air traffic advising the wake turbulence and the recommended distance to follow at.

For instance, a cessna 152 following a 737 would be 5 miles whereas the same aircraft following a 757 would be 6 miles.

If you google CAP493 which is the CAA air traffic bible if you want to know more.

Thanks masere and Aviador, I am sorting out a few scans of great photos taken by the late Colin Addison at LBA.

Subsequent posts moved into the Nostalgia Thread.

Out of interest, if I went to film from the Multiflight cafe, firstly is filming allowed from there? Secondly can someone upload a pic of the type of view you get please? and thirdly what are the opening hours?

Cheers

:good:

Hi All,

I have made a playlist of all of my LBA videos going back to 2007, so if you have a spare two and a half hours :pardon: it's here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U9iz8XSB ... E015311943

I think I've captured most of the commercial airlines over that period, but sadly not all.

I'm hoping to get some interesting footage this afternoon if 32 is in operation, as I'm going geocaching and there is a cache near the end of the South of the runway, so I'll take my camcorder just in case I'm there for any approaches!

Happy bank hol all :drinks:

Video from today, featuring a circular walk from Cookridge to near the end of Runway 32 approach, most of the aircraft shots are between 3:30 and 5:50. Unfortunately my camcorder packed in prior to getting towards the airport so the footage isn't as good quality as usual as it's filmed on a little Fuji Finepix camera.

Here's also a few images that I've hosted on Dropbox: http://www.dropbox.com/gallery/2481695/ ... A?h=c692bc

Hi Galaxy, thanks for that. I really enjoyed the walk and it brought back lots of memories. The first shot looked suspiciously like Moseley Wood Green, the street I used to live on until1999. You then went down the ginnel to the railway line - the bungalow on the left just before the ginnel I was looking at last year when I was looking for a house (didn't buy it as its right next to the railway bridge which can attract a few unruly visitors). Bulrushes Pond is still there I see - I used to go there to find newts when they were building the Moseley Woods and I lived in Woodnook Drive. Amazing really that I was only 8 yet I was allowed to go all the way to Bulrushes from Tinshill, across the railway and Moseley Beck, but in the early 60's nobody thought it an issue really - although of course my parents probably never knew!! There were ponds all over the area in those days when the mills were still there down Low Lane Horsforth.

I am not sure how you get from Bulrushes Pond up to Scotland Lane? I have walked the path around the runway a few times and was in there on 4th November 1984 for the first 747 and I was often very close to it when playing golf at Horsforth for around 20 years. The route back to Cookridge Cricket Club I know well and used to cycle it when I lived on Moseley Wood Green.

Its quite weird though seeing places that are so familiar as the Moseley Woods, Scotland Lane etc on your film. I just hope your nearest and dearest didn't get too fed up waiting for you to do the filming - she seemed to be having to hang around a few times waiting for you!!

Thanks again - very enjoyable and some great aircraft shots too - especially seeing the props which seem to be slowed down on the video.

I enjoyed the video too, Galaxy.

Which railway tunnel is shown and where does the line go to and from?

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
